It just started yesterday, in my 1997 ECLIPSE RS AUTO N/T... when it first started it was just at idle now it happend when im idle and when im leaving idle and driving faster.. what happens is im stopped and idling, my engine is idling @ about 800rpms and then ever 3-6 seconds while idling my enginbe click and shakes a little, enough to notice, and the RPM's drop to about 500-600rmps, and then i start to drive off and speed up, the engine still is clicking and stutters, and now its even backfiring when i floor it or speed up from a idle. please if any one knows what may cause this please let me know... i parked the car and the clciking is coming from around the Throttle Body or Spark Plug Coil. on top of the engine... please help thanks ahead of time.

My guess would be bad plug wires. The clicking could be the spark arcing to ground. Look under the hood, in the dark, and see if you can see evidence of this. Sometimes they can arc and other times the resistance just gets too high. I just replaced my plug wires this week after experiencing the same problem you described. The plug wire causing the problem had a resistance of 8.9K ohms versus 2.8K ohms for the new replacement wire. Problem solved.

ok cool deal thanks man... i will go get some new wires tomor, and i will put new plugs in also just to be safe. thanks again.
