How do I know if my differential is Open or LSD without opening it? I had heard if you spin the wheel and the opposite wheel turns the opposite direction it is LSD, I have heard if it spins the same direction it is LSD . Im confused and would like to figure this out as I am putting my DSM together from a collage of vehicles and I want the LSD for the best hookup.

Vehicle number 1 :
Rear differential is disconnected from the driveshaft. I spin a tire and the opposite tire turns in the same direction . What Differential is this and why ?

Vehicle 2:
Rear differential is connected to driveshaft in neutral I believe . I spin a rear wheel and the opposite tire spins in the opposite direction. What differential is this and why?

I have heard too many explanations from different forums , however I would like a car specific definition since Im putting together a DSM and not a Miata or a AWD Astrovan

Open diff the wheels usually turn opposite or don't and only one turns. LSD they usually turn the same. Since LSD is "limiting the slip" it tries to keep both working in the same direction make sense.

That doesn't seem to be the case with the factory Viscus LSD.
On all of the 3 that I had, if I turned one wheel, the other turned in the opposite direction. I read that they don't lock until you push them so hard that the silicone fluid heats up.
