About what temperature range is the ideal operating temperature for the 4G63T? According to my pocketlogger the coolant usually stays at a pretty steady 205 degrees, sometimes going up to 210 for a brief while. Is this pretty much the ideal temperature, or would my engine be that much happier by switching to a higher pressure Greddy radiator cap and a lower temp. thermostat?

Mine runs at about 210 all time. On the freeway@80 it cycles between 217-220

Really?? man..I probably have to much antifreeze...mine always stays at 190....it was a 50/50

The boiling point of antifreeze is much higher than water. If you ever have to run pure water in the summer you'll notice that it overheats.

Hrm, running more water makes your car run cooler. The reason you use antifreeze is so that car engine won't rust. I see around 193 to 196 cruising around 75. I'll see how it does this summer with A/C on.

I have a higher pressure cap and am going to swtich to 180 therm that a couple other people in AZ have used with success.

Well my car usually stays around 190-197*..relevance is the fmic, fluidyne radiator and spal fan. Im in az and have no problems at all. but the thermostat is rated to open fully at 195* so Id say that anythign from 190-215 is prolly ok, but much over that and its prolly pretty hot. Anyhow John might I suggest not geting a higher pressure radiator cap.

Nothing [we use, melted sodium is better] transfers heat better than water, antifreeze cuts into its cooling ability. However, it also combats electrolytic erosion (the iron/aluminum mix in the engine passages sets up an electric current which will cause the aluminum to give up electrons or some damned thing, and dissolve it), fights rust, raises the freezing temperature of the water, and lubricates the waterpump seals. Antifreeze starts to cut into water's cooling capability when you have more than about 30% AF to water, but many areas (and especially this year, from the pics you guys were putting up last month) need the 50/50 for better freeze protection.
I've not looked into the Redline WaterWetter's effect on cooling, but if it would increase the ability of the coolant to come in contact with the cooling jacket, it should have some small positive effect.
Automotive cooling hasn't been all that much of a challenge since we got British Leyland the hell out of here.:D
If you're running cool, the most usual cause is a thermostat that's sticking open.

Hmm..never really put much thought to the cooling system. It works fine, never really had problems with it. Brand new thermostat 190F engine warms up quick

The 2gs runn about 10 degrees hotter than the 1gs. mine is running at 185 on hiway and about 195 up hill. I also have a huge FMIC and 2 14" pusher and a puller fans. I also changed the oil cooler to a air cooled one. You have to change the whole sending unit also and get lines made to the cooler. But when I did that my temps lowerd about 5 degrees. I also use water wetter. I love it. I also have a fluidine(sp?) radiator also, it helps out alot. You can drill small holes in the thermostat to allow more flow through it. Do not take it out the car will over heat. I also take the water neck and port it out to help the flow on it to the thermastat. I wanted my temps to be it the 185 -190 range. This stuff seamed to work.

I thought our cars came with 190 degree thermostats or am I wrong. Today I drove aroudn with a scantool hooked up and I got up to 194 degrees. I live in N Dakota so I cant go with too cool of a thermostat because I need heat in the winter. What temp would you guys recommend and where can I buy it online?

Whats the general operating temperature for a little modded 2G GST with stock intercooler, radiator etc. Any help would be great. I'm running around 200 degrees just want to know if thats alright or if its imperative to take the steps to bring down the temperature.

500?!?!
dear god. Mine has seen 220 with the front mount on there, I have heard you don't want to go higher than that. I think normal temp is 190 - 210 tho, depending on weather. Mine is also around 200 right now.

Yeah, the 200 range is pretty standard... and no, he didn't see 500.... prolly hit the 5 instead of the 2 as it lies right above it on the 10 key...

with FMIC and fluidyne radiator i see between 184 and 190 usually driveing in town and on freeway.. hit 200 very very seldom.. maby after letting it sit idleing and then getting on it hard.. but it will only stay at 200 for a min or so then cool down..

but remember.. even 215 isnt "hot" if you hit 235.. its time to pull over.
