Problems: Idle is low, RPMs are surging, bouncing up and down. Seems to do it after driving for a little. Check engine light went on saying it was the IAC.

I was wondering if this part was the right part?

Idle Air Parts by BWD - Part 18480236 - Advance Auto Parts

(JNZ said it was going to cost me $275 for the new IAC)... So How in the hell is that the part?

I am not 100% but i don''t think thats it. If you google Ica it shows something else. :thumb: I found that if looking for a part google it with the year of the car and 95% of the time i find something. For your part i put in "ICA 98 eclipse" There was one in ebay that was already ended but at least you see the pic :hellyeah:

You can also search ISC. That part doesn't look right but probably the picture is just from another vehicle. It would be the right part it just isn't that design for our cars. JNZ isn't pulling your leg, it costs a lot from the dealer and it is a part that really is probably best purchased from the junkyard or local forums for $10-$20. It is also easy to replace, pull your battery out then find it on the throttle body, remove the electrical connector and two screws, pull it out then put the new one in and reverse your steps. 10 minute job.

Yes I know where it is, I am going to try advanced auto parts tomorrow since I told them I would buy it. They said it was the Idle Air Control Valve, theres not much else to it. Looks to me that the advanced auto part image is backwards? Maybe that metal piece goes into the motor or w.e and the FEMALE connector is on the other side? I really need this IAC asap, car really isn't getting anywhere now.

* So i read your post, your saying that is the part from advanced auto? Damn it's pretty cheap compared to JNZ and the dealer.

Wrong part from advanced auto...

My buddy did a diagnostic on the check engine and now IAC is not coming up, but the following is:

Fuel Trim Malfunction
2 Random/Multiple Cyllinder Misfire

But my cars rpm's will surge and turn off, and sometimes car wont start backup unless I unplug the IAC and plug it back in.... Oh what a headache :(

Just go to a junkyard and find a good, black one out of a 2g.
Tell the owners you have no idea what it's called, but you need the part.

(This usually makes them charge you less if they dunno what they're talking about)

Yep, that'll work. That's the one in the 2gs that are stronger.

I would personally go here though, they have had deals for us dsmtuners.

dsmisc.com

You're paying the extra money because they are NEW in the SEALED box.

But I don't think I would have any second guesses putting the ebay one in my car.

So you think I should purchase a brand new one instead of the ebay one? But the ebay one offers a 10 year warranty. Let me know what your thoughts are. I'm thinking about the new one just because its new.

This is not to say it is NOT the IAC. That problem truely sounds like the IAC to me but I did some research and there are a couple other issues you may want to consider. Obviously if the IAC works you wont have to worry about it. But anyway, I read read this on VFAQ and a super outdated page on removing the EGR but what the hell our cars are getting old too  "my EGR valve failed at the 105k mile mark, and was causing the infamous "idle surge" problem. This fixed the problem." This could explain your issue as well, though I have no idea if it even applies to our 98 models. Also, in my experience venting the BOV to atmosphere will cause a metering issue in the MAF. If you have done this, I know from personal experience it can cause similar symptoms. I hope you won't need to consider more options but if this helps, wonderful! Good luck :thumb:

I am almost 90% sure it's the IAC, seemed to me that the sensor is just completely going bad now. After it surges car turns off, sometimes I can't get the car back on unless I unplug the IAC, and plug it back in. So the sensor is prob beat.... Also, is DSMISC.com legit? That vendor hasn't made a post since 2008, and site seems a bit outdated. I just don't feel like going through a paypal debate if someone recently got screwed. THANKS!
