I would really appreciate it if all of you could help me out on choosing the best shock absorbers for my 98 eclipse GST. I would like to know what shock absorbers are commonly used in the front by most dsm'ers when lowering a 2g eclipse 1.5" or more, i already have the 2 rear ones. If your car is lowered, what shocks did you install in the front to eliminate understeer? What shocks do you suggest when lowering a 2g eclipse?

All of your help is greatly appreciated.

I got the Tokico 5 ways. I love them.

KYB-AGX adjustable's if u some extra money if not
KYB-GR2's are also good but NON-ADJUSTABLE should be ok with less than 2 inch drop :)

I highly recommend Tokico as well...they also have great customer service. When I bought my used shocks they didn't have the adjusting screw caps at the top, so I called them and they sent me 4 brand new ones free of charge.

If all you want is to lower your car, then any of the suggestions already made above are fine.

But if you want the car to handle well after lowering it, then you need shocks with short bodies and the only OTS shocks that meet this requirement are Konis.

Exactly. If you don't like hitting the bumpstops you will want Konis. There is an old post where someone has a picture of the AGX, Illuminas, and Koni Yellow right next to each other and you can see the difference.

I've been searching for the best price on the Koni's, these are some expensive shocks, the cheaperst i have found so far are $279.98 shipped for the 2 front Yellow ones and the Red's for $193.98 shipped. I also found the KYB AGX's for $220 shipped and the Tokico Illuminas for $ 230 shipped.
I am very confused as to which ones to get, i am really looking for a good ride, not just looks, but my cash is limited.

Any comments?

My car rides excellent with the Pro Kit and Koni Yellows. Some guys say that they don't have problems with the AGX's & some do. The Illuminas have a bit more travel than the AGX's so they may be something else to look at. The AGX's aren't a bad shock, my brother uses them on his 240SX and likes them. The 2G DSM's have a different suspension set-up compared to most cars that use Macpherson struts so I don't think that shocks like the AGX are optimized for our platform. Try to find some guys that use the Illuminas & AGX's and get their opinions on ride quality.
