I hate to say it, but 2 weeks in and I think my transmission blew. It’s been running kinda rough lately, (i.e. had a hard time shifting into 2nd, normally wouldn't shift til about 5-6k rpm, and it would slip in 3rd and 4th at high rpms) but I figured I had more time to save up and get it rebuilt. (Which was the plan when I bought it.)

That all changed today. Something gave, and I’m not sure what. (I originally thought it was a bad Solenoid or Clutch Pack, since I pulled error code 1750, twice.) It won’t shift out of first. It won’t climb higher than 2k rpm. Won’t go above 15mph. Spits thick black smoke out of the exhaust, and idles real rough on start up. I’m talking the needle jumping everywhere between 500-1500rpm in park.

I’m at a loss right now. I’ve got no idea what it could be, and if my transmission is 100% done or rebuildable. Also no idea if my transmission is my only problem here too. (The black smoke and rough idle makes me think the car is all of a sudden running extremely rich. Hoping it’s just the O2 Sensors in addition to the Trans and nothing worse.)

It’s probably worth mentioning that’s its a 97’ GSX. Automatic.

I’ll be able to get a better look at it tomorrow.
I’m still pretty new to this however. Guess I gotta learn the hard way.

Any and all help would be appreciated. Greatly appreciated.

But if nobody replies that’s cool too.

Thanks-

If it is actually STUCK in 1st gear, and still won't climb above 2k rpms & 15 mph, then it would seem this is more engine / ecu related. More than trans.

You also mentioned it would slip in 3rd and 4th?? That's no good. 3rd is the strongest gear in an auto, as far as torque capacity. That's why we dyno in 3rd.

You sir, will have to do more digging. We can only guess from here.
