I need slicks or some serious radials, I am going to the track and i have a MAJOR issue, i mean i went a 14.2 at 102 mph, its that bad, so what do I go with, Nitto 555R on some 15" rims or what combination can I use, sorry its my first approach to getting slicks, I have pieces of crap Fuzions ZR right now and they dont hook for ne thing.... And i dont drive the car every day so its not like they need to be totally legal, just able to hook and turn corners...not fast I might add, just turn normal

I feel your pain my friend. i ran a 14.4. i heard that the bf goodridge drag radials are very good for hooking up on the track, not so good for corning though, but your probably gonna find that with any drag radial that you get......

Things that make you :barf: ....

hit me up and let me know how you did. :thumb:

I have an awd so i am not used to having a lot of wheel spin, but i do work at a performance tire store and i can tell you that a fuzion tire has almost the exact tread pattern as a nitto 555. But there are two different versions of the 555, one is the extreme performance 555 and the other is the 555r drag radial. I roll on Extreme Performance 555 in 18 inch and my cornering ability now is unbelievable. I would suggest going bigger than a 15 inch rim and going with 555r's on the front and Extreme performance on the rear. Because they have the same tread design but the compound is softer on the fronts and would get you the traction that you need. :dsm:

Yeah I practiced digging last night, i launched at about 3300 rpm but it still bogged so i might have to launch at a lil higher rpm, but the trick is to launch on the low boost setting and when u hit third, switch over to Hi boost and you set. ALso i let air out of my tires so there down to about 29.5 lbs of air right now.

hey just to let you know bfg drag radials (the one with threads on the whole tire) is awesome. my times went from a 2.5 60ft (205/55/16 eagle rsa) to a 1.9-2.1 (225/50/15 bfg drag radial) i air it down to 17psi and can launch using the stutterbox at 4000 and slipping the clutch with 20psi boost, i get a little spin off the line but as soon as the tire grips in 1st its all good from there. o btw i get 20psi off the line due to the stutterbox, so i think if you launch without building boost you should be good.

You should really stick with some high performance street tires and keep trying your times till you get them down more with the mods on your car you should be able to get 13's with street tires. Then switch to slicks or drag radials learn to drive the car first and practice your launch till you can only slip the tires in the last few thousand rpms of first. Jkrause you to a 14.4 . your mod list is the same as mine except I have a small 16g I ran 13.57 no N20 or lsd 19psi pump gas with a 2.0 60 at 110.45mph on fulda quantum elites. 420 tread wear Save for slicks when you get t3t4 turbo thats when you will really need them. Im hopeing to hit a 13.1 or 13.2 before I get a sticker tire and lsd which then I and seting a goal of a 12.? all on a small 16g.

you work at a performance tire store and you are telling him to get BIGGER wheels for traction?? Alright so here is how it all goes down. Since fwd dsm's use a relatively akward tire size we are extremely limited in our tire selection. Nitto used to make a 555r in a 225/50/16 which is our perfect size unfortunately they discontinued that size and we have no 16" drag radial options anymore. NOONE and I mean no one makes a 16" drag radial in our size or at least in a wide enough or tall enough size that would be effective. If you are going to go with radials your best bet is to pick up a 15" wheel and run 225/55/15 nitto 555r tires. However, if you are goign to go through the hassle of getting a spare set of rims just for the track you might as well spring for slicks.

Beleive it or not a 13" wheel WILL clear the stock fwd brakes. I know, I didn't beleive it either but i run them on my car problem free(check my gallery for a pick) so thet's just proof. If you run slicks grab a set of 24.5xwhater width you wantx13 if you have awd brakes a 14" wheel is the smallest size wheel you can run.

Another thing lower your tire pressure even more, it should be around 19psi when you aer at the track racing. Rev your car to about 4-4.5k and slip the clutch till you get moving. Dont' go more than 60% in first gear. About 80% in second and then wot in third gear. I didn't check your profile but a good suspension set up is the greatest mod you can do to get traction in your FWD. Even if you are running non adjustable shocks up front switch to adjustables in rear and run them on the stiffest setting you can. Take all the weight out of ht erear of the car you can, and practice practice practice your launches.

went to moroso last night and got disappointed, I ran a 13.94 at 104.5 and my 2nd run was a 13.88 at 106.97, I dropped my tire pressure down to 29 and came out of the whole in low boost and everything but i still spun 1st thru 3rd. :notgood:

Anyone know a cheap wheel that is a 13-15" that will work with our bolt pattern? I want to gt slicks for my fwd, but I am not sure what rims to get. I was hoping there was some kind of car that has stock wheels that will fit our if possible.

v6 mustangs have 15" wheels that ar ethe same bolt pattern and a usable offset only problem is they are not that wide. Anythign smaller than 15" will not be cheap because you will have to get rims made to fit around brake calipers and crazy offsets or run spacers or both.

i have a pair of nitto 555r drag radials 225/50/16 they are sticky as hell when heated up. and for the person that works at the tiree place the tire pattern on the 555 and the 555r are slighty different the drag radials have less lines and athe extremmes have a extra lina on every block of tread.

Those times aren't terrible for street tires. You're driving a fwd remember. Sticky tires should help you hook in 3rd. I'm running Falken Azenis for the autox but they do help in the 1/4 as well. My time under my name is with pump gas and the 205/55-16 Falken's spinning all of 1st and second. I agree though that if you're going to buy a set of tires just for the strip that spending your money on anything but slicks is pretty much a waste.

ont feel bad morosso is probably the shittiest track i have ever run on. i could do better in the rain at atco raceway in nj. where do u live in fl...morosso is about 30mins south of me

I live about 1 hour south of moroso, yeah moroso is pretty crappy, i think im gonna also get some wider tires, like some 225's im running on 205's now.
