i need help ASAP easly question stupid machanic

ok i just took the valve cover off my 7bolt. i had a machanic work on it a few months ago, i notice some small bolts and some longer ones, witch go where? as i was taking them off i noticed they were scatered in all directions some long here some short all mixed up please help!!!!!

do the short ones go on the inside (by the plugs) or on the out side?

I could have sworn all the bolts should be the same size.

All the bolts are the same size and you should most likely get the proper ones because you can very easily crack the valve cover if a bolt is to long.

well wtf??? there are only off by like 1mm/2mm and they all have a "7" on the top

ok now im pissed i tryed to take pics for every one to see but i cant find batterys for my digitalcam. Anyway i figuered it out the smaller ones go on the inside by the plugs and the larger ones go on the outside. Simple solution. i believe there was 6onthe inside and 8 on the outside, counted the bolts and all mached up well. thanks everyone anyway

Now that you mention the middle ones being smaller I think you are right, big ones on outside small ones in the middle. If there is the right amount for each than that has to be right. Don't over tighten them and you can easily crack the valve cover.

Correct, what I call short are the really short ones for the wire cover.

Numbers on the tops of Metric fasteners refer to their Grade. SAE fasteners use hash marks.
