I was driving my 99 GST tonight, just cruising, not getting on it or anything. I went to shift into 4th and as soon as I let out on the clutch and gave it some gas I heard a POP! It sounded like a really big can of pringles the first time you open them. I am right in front of a gas station so I pull in, get out and look under the hood. Nothing seems out of place so I climb back in and go to take off. I takes off ok but once it hits 2k it starts sounding like a lawn mower and wont go. I floored it and it just got slower. So I backed off the gas, at 1/4 throttle or so the rpms pick up to about 2,300 but its still sounding like a lawnmower. I had to limp it 5mi to my house at 7mph. It didnt smoke, nothings leaking, not running hot. Any ideas?

ps: I have NO mods at all(so far:D)

I have the answer if youll listen....

wait.....

wait......

wait for it....

You just most likely blew off an intercooler pipe... NO wait Im positive... Find it. Thats the ONLY and I mean ONLY thing that will cause one to run like crap over 2k AND make a POP

i was trying to get out of traffic so i didnt get killed, i limped it after i got it moved out of traffic, like i said it ran the best at about 1/4 throttle or less

I've had my power resistor plug come loose, it acted just like an ic pipe blowing off.

fixed it today, bov blew out of its hole....but still got a boost leak i think. it surges when its accl, and if u take it above 5k when u shift theres nothing there for about 6 sec then the boost kicks in and it starts to move again.....more tomorrow.

good call kolby...i would do a boost leak test before you take it back out bro, at least eliminate that first knowing you have no leaks :) let us know

I had the same thing happen to me. LOL. POP then feels like the car wants to die. My BOV flew off and hit the hood, strange though I was going from 1st to 2nd at about 2100RPM not even boosting. Tighten those clamps. It worked wonders for me. LOL.

If it sounds like a really loud lawn mower check your ic connections by the turbo. You are hearing it boost but the boost isnt reaching your engine. Your computer is adding the extra boost fuel, but theres no air so your pig rich over 2k or w.e and it will stutter, die, fart, and stall like you broke everything.

Car should be normally drivable as long as you stay out of boost. Imagine your dsm just turned into a kia and drive it in the 1500-2200 rpm range for max torque till you find the leak.

On the other hand, if all the hoses are tight, check your air filter maybe you sucked something up and clogged your intake.

As long as nothing is leaking or ticking, your engine should be fine.

the cars doin ok now, its dead below 2500 give or take. then it suddenly takes off unil 3200 then i start feeling a skip. like a little hesitation or a little surging. take it to 4k-5k and shift and there is absolutlly nothin in the next gear for about 2-5sec. i can mash the gas to the floor and it just sits there then it starts climbing again. went and got some ngk's. the denso's that were in there were so fowled with carbon that it wasnt funny, im workin on a blt, ne suggestions til its complete?

well you sound like you have the same problem i did .. my TPS went out and my throttle body was dirty as all hell . it would run fine till about 4k rpm and then it would surge and bog cleanedu p the TB and changed sensors and bam shes runnin fine

ill check the tps after the blt, i will go ahead and clean the tb though, i was gunna seafoam it neways

Have you washed your engine bay lately? Sounds like maybe you have water ontop the plug from washing the bay or just a bad set of plugs/wires possibly. Whenever I wash mine the boots leak and it will cut out and hit or miss until I pull the boot and blow it out with compressed air.
