Why don't I have a pop-off valve!?

Some of you might remember me, I bought a car a while back and had problems with the turbo (turns out guy lied to me about boost fluid yeah yeah), turns out it was shot. Well I eventually put on a 16G, installed a new K&N air filter and a hard intake pipe.
Well I finally got my car back from the shop after a few months of some body work. I've been doing some reasearch and I hear all this talk about upgrading the pop-off valve (blow off valve) and I went to check mine out and I don't have one!
I followed the hose from my intercooler to my intake manifold and there is a small hard pipe (where the vfaq shows there should be a pop-off valve) and all I have there is a metal plate bolted down on that flange!

I was reading how those work and what they do, and it sounds to me like I need one! right? I just don't understand why the guy before me would take it off and bolt a plate on there. Maybe I'm wrong and you really don't need one. But can someone tell me if I need one! Maybe this has to do to why my old turbo didn't work when I bought my car. Just trying to find answers.

He drives a 1g...our blow off valves are an upgrade for 2gs :thumb:
If a teacher tells you 1+1=2...you beleive it. Why would a nOOb not beleive a "competant" mechanic?

Edit: And perhaps with your infinite wisdom, you could figure out how to 'edit' a post, instead of posting twice.:thumb:
 
uhm i did edit them... a few times i wanted my threat to be last :D :p seriusly bro well maybe some people just dont know.. and yes i have 1 of your bov's on my 2g.. just dont like the chirping noise
 
i have to admit... the whole scenario does seem somewhat bogus... but theres no point in flaming the guy to high heaven.. hes learning (probably going to blow his car up in the process) but still .. :)

If you read about my old turbo, you would know it went bad. This is the reason I took the opportunity to upgrade it. Believe wht you want, I'm not on this board to take flames. I'm hear to learn and that is what I thiought this board was for. You learn from your mistakes, unfortunately I've had a bit more than some of you, but I'm trying and sticking with it. Nobody's perfect, nobody just wakes up and knows everyhting about a car. Just please stop the bashing and give me tips or advice instead, help me to learn more.
 
I'm usually a newbie sniper, but I understand where you are coming from. Keep doing your DSM homework and everything will come together.

and dont let some of these jerks get you down, I know why you got the 16g. It was a bunch of bad luck and a learning experience. It's just nice that you stuck with dsm's through all that.
 
i think you need to take pics of your engine bay, especially the turbo so we can verify that it is truly a 16g. other than that, you should have a boost gauge. you didnt know any better so im not flaming you, but its pretty rediculous to have a 16g and a boost controller and not have one. go buy yourself an autometer boost gauge and some kind of pod to mount it. then, you should get yourself a 190lph fuel pump so you dont melt your engine. but before doing all this read through vfaq.com and buy yourself a chiltons and read that too.
