I Have some wastegate questions, may be complicating...

:confused: My 93 eclipse used to be a n/t and for the past month ive been doing a engine swap to a turbod 4g63 because i lucked up and got the whole motor and tranny and all accessories with the turbo and everything out of a 90s model car for 500 dollars, and the turbo is spinning beautiful the guy told me it was only like 3 or 4 months old(the turbo). Lucky deal huh...!!! Well anyways i had the engine built up internally and etc. n ill list all my mods on my page soon once i get everything finished. Now Everythings almost done except i still need to put in the 255 pump i bought, and do the wiring for the pump, and the entire wiring of the car. Now once we start the wiring ( which is soon ) I was going to retain my n/t's original harness like mavaskys thread shows how to do instead of adding a entirely new harness..... Well i realized a couple weeks ago i realized i dont have the waste gate equipment for the car, i only have the waste gate actuator on the exhaust manifold. Do i absolutely need it or can i just buy an aftermarket external or internal wastegate, or do i have to have the stock system wired into my ecu??? ( remember started as a n/t and have n/t harness, no wastegate equipment what so ever only the actuator. ) Any proffesional help would be appreciated.
 
Didnt think id get quick responses on this since very few ppl would have experienced that swap since id figure everyone just started out gst or gsx. But at least some info on the waste gate system that might pertain useful info for me on my question would help....
 
You will be fine. Just make sure that you feed that wastegate actuator with a boost source and it will work fine. That or get an external. But that internal will work fine.
 
oh and your car looks pretty mean, even though a lot of ppl hear love sleepers, and they figure if its not a sleeper then its a ricer.... ( which i dont believe is true ) just thought id add that in. and i was going to ask are you running extrenal on yours? and dont you need a different manifold and/or 02 houseing set up to that, or does it connect to your intake path somewhere, i.e intercooler pipeing??

and does internal sound different over external. ( maybe be a silly question but i dont have a clue as far as that)
 
You probably will get a CEL if you don't have a BCS hooked up to the ECU somehow; but it won't affect the way your car runs at all. Like mentioned before, just make sure you hook the actuator up to an accurate boost source. If you want, you can probably find a BCS at a junkyard or in the classifieds here and hook it up to the ECU later. It doesn't need to be physically connected the wastegate, but as long as it's connected to the wiring harness, your CEL should go away.

You'll at least need a manifold with a wastegate flange on it to run an external wastegate. Then, you can just weld the internal wastegate's flapper shut, and have an exhaust shop fab a simple dump tube. There are a few other possible configurations, but I'd say that one is the simplest and easiest.

There's plenty of threads listing the pro's and con's of each type of wastegate, though. If you do a little research, you'll find everything you need to know...
 
With mine disconnected I only got a light every once in a while. It won't affect you any though at all and you might as well go ahead and get used to a check engine light and not let it annoy you. I have my external off the exh. manifold. You can get a flange for a w/g welded onto your manifold or you can get a new manifold or new o2 housing, either way. Everyone thinks that a car with a body kit is slow, so I am just a different type of sleeper. Reverse psychology :D
 
nice psychology, guess they wont really get to see how nice your car looks as your pulling away from them. i mainly like the hood though, i think i seen that kind for my car if so i may get it one day.... But I dont think im going to put a body kit on my 1st gen, but i definily want black racing rims, the blacked out tail lights, and the clear diamond headlights. Anyways another reason i dont like the check engine light is because then im going to get used to ignoring it, and it will hide a real problem that might occure because ill think the lights only there for the waste gate... Ill figure out how to wire it in eventually. Im thinking like just a el cheapo manual boost controller off ebay ( any input on that idea then shoot ) but i guess that should work for now to get me running huh?
