I have a Viper alarm with an unused AUX button, how can I make it do remote start? I have a Manual... What do I need to make this work?

you need to find someone who will do it and not take liability for you starting it while in gear and having your car take off. other than that, you just need to bypass the clutch making it so you can start the car with out engaging the clutch.

I can not remember off hand, but I believe the 98 GSX has a neutral safty wire somewhere. Basically a wire that only shows signal when the car is in Neutral. I would have to check and see if the 1Gs have it also. This would be the way to hook up the remote starter. Basically wire in a relay to interupt the signal from the AUX output on your alarm to the remote starters trigger wire. And of course you would have to bypass the clutch wire with a relay that triggers when your remote starter is cranking the starter over. And I believe VIPER/PYTHON has a standalone remote starter for hooking to you alarm. OR You could just buy a whole new alarm/remote start is the for a manual tranny vehicle.

The aux is for simple devices Not for adding remote start.

you need a new alarm (new brain) that has the capability of remote start.

my brain doesnt have remote start capability, however i think i have a separate remote start box but its hooked into my alarm...

You are Wrong on this one big guy.... I have hooked up MANY aux triggered remote start systems. How do you think you add one to an Alpine alarm?? They DO NOT make a remote start and haven't for quite a few years. It can be done, just take it to a good shop and they will be able to do it. And if the people you take it to say they have never done one like that then LEAVE and go somewhere else.

Yes but im looking at it from cost efficency as well.

Purchasing a whole new brain with more features with R/S built in in comparison to purchasing just those remote start accessory brain. (unless I looked at price sheet wrong OMG )

would be cheaper.

Possibly.... If I remember right, those weren't all that expensive. Most remote starts can actually be triggered by an alarm if I remember right. I will have to check on it.

you are absolutely correct. using the auxiliary channel to trigger a remote start module is not hard at all. and it is just a matter of hooking up power, ignition, accesory, hood pin, foot brake, and a tach wire. probably take about 20 minutes. there is no neutral safety wire, however one could be made with a magnetic switch setup mounted under the gearshifter. and the clutch switch would have to be bypassed as well. none of which is hard by any means, however, i believe he will have quite a bit of trouble finding a shop that will actually install the remote start module on a manual transmission. it is probably something you will have to do yourself. if you need better instructions how to do it, you can pm me. however, i would NOT recommend doing it without making a neutral safety switch, unless you won't mind seeing your car drive itself through a wall.

And believe me even the best of us have done it.... Well in my case, a buddy started my Toyota P/U out in the sand dunes and it drove for three or four HUNDRED feet with the E BRAKE ON before I caught up to it. I wouldn't have cared as much if it hadn't have ran through a few bushes. $6K black paint job didn't like that......

Only on automatics. Manuals have a clutch switch that require the clutch be pushed in to start the engine, until you get down there and unplug it. The transmissions have no neutral indicator.

Yes, you'll have to find one that has the trigger wire on it so your alarm can trigger it. I will go look at my buddy's shop today and see if he has one I could sell you.

any luck?

Couldn't make it over there yesterday, I will go today in an hour or so and check it out for you. :thumb:

The ones he had in stock did not work that way. I could sell you a complete Ultrastart alarm/remote start for $128 shipped, but you would have to have find a shop to put it in for you, or do it yourself. They have complete instructions for install. They are VERY easy to install compared to some others on the market, and we have NEVER had one come back after we put it in. Trust me, that says something. I personally have put in over 25-30 of them. Oh, and it would be for a manual transmission vehicle. I will get some more particulars on how it works if you are interested. And I will find the standalone style today and let you know how much it will cost.

how is the alarm range, sensitivity, overall quality, as well as remote start?

my viper alarm is awesome, it goes off when needed, and never when it's not

I know what you are saying, I have sold/installed Viper and other DEI products for as long as I have been doing this. These alarms are very reliable, and we have had none come back with problems, like falsing, etc. The range is very good for not being an FM piece. They do have an FM paging piece but it costs more money, let me know if you are interested and I will get you a final price on it. I know it is around $250 just to give you an idea. Those are not retail costs either of course. ;)

Mack, I will be moving back to Spokane in a month. Would you be willing to assist me in trying to get remote start properly on my car? :)

grab up a 160xv, get a bitwriter, program the aux input to the r start, make shure all your secondary ignitions are correct. voila, most all dei products 5 years old can do that. use the new 160xv remote to control your security system, and youll have a dedicated start button. you can also use the aux on that for a hatch pop or aux lighting etc. any questions feel free to call me at tweeter 1-603436-3339/ ask for ron. :dsm: that goes for anyone that needs a quick answer on any 12 volt stuff.
