I got these but now I'm not sure? PICs inside

Ok so I bought these shifter bushings, they aren't the "speedsource" ones, they are just regular skate bearings. I read the VFAQ but now i'm trying to find out if the speedsource E clips are needed before I begin the install.

I found a thread on here somewhere about this a long while back and now i can't locate it again, but I think it had my answer in it...if anyone has some info or a search title that would help me locate it, I would much appreciate it.

I used skateboard bearings, a washer, and the stock pins to hold everything in. Got 4 sets of skateboard bearings (enough for 4 cars that is) out of one $8 miniature kids skateboard at Meijer's.

I'd be surprised if you couldnt use the stock retaining clip/whatever it is (been a while since I did this mod). Give it a shot.

Yeah you can use the stock clip, but the only thing is when using only one bearing per cable there is extra slack. Just slip some washers inbetween the bearing on both sides untill you get close to the hole the pin goes threw.

Ok so where exactly do I find these shifter bushings, are they in the engine bay area? or are they in the console inside the car?

I haven't fully grasp the concept of where they are located at

They are meant to replace the bushings under the hood on the linkage attached to the transmission. And yes you will use the regular cotter pin to hold them in.

I just did this same install over the weekend. I had to grind out the ends of the shifter cables a little and press the bearings in with a C clamp. It also helped to unbolt the bracket that holds the cablse to the trans housing. That way you can pull the cables up to where you can get a good hold on them. It really made a difference in the shifting, even with a stock shifter.

Do What Miskvy Said About Using The Washers And A Cotter Pin. The Washers Keep The Bearing From Moving Around.

got it done about a week ago, everything shifts real nice now, i'm quite impressed with the amount of change some 6 dollar bushings can make. All in all it was an easy install...I didn't take the cables out, i just stuck a screwdriver in the middle of the bushing, popped it out(it was broken and rotted ) then I grinding away with a sander bit and a dremel. pressed them in with a C clamp, and then got them the rest of the way in with two sets of channel lock pliers.

put washers and stock cotter pins back in, which by the way those cotter pins are garbage but they work you know...still just cheap metal garbage for pins.
