I give up guys. I posted the following threads with logs and they are not posting properly: one from Excel:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/log-file-advice/384120-new-logs-car-running-now.html

and one from dreamweaver

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/log-file-advice/384131-new-logs-knock.html

I don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong. My post seems to change the entire page. The previews look good, but when posted, they get all screwed up. To actually view the posts on either thread, you have to push the reply button - even if you don't plan on replying. Once you push the button, and scroll down to view what you're replying too, everything comes into line. I have a moderator deleting the former post, what a damn mess. Kudos if someone figures this one out. I never had problems before, I dunno.

Actually I posted on your second thread where the log file was actually embedded into your OP, very readable and I was able to make sense of it. The problem was replying I guess, I notified Chris and it looks like he removed your post altogether which is unfortunate because now my reply is gone too...

You cannot compare your cars tuning behavior to a buddies, even if its the exact same setup, EVERY CAR IS DIFFERENT! Your AFR's are too lean, especially for that kind of timing advance, even with 93 oct tune for a 10.8 ~ 11.1:1 AFR because on your logs it was flashing 11.6 ~ 11.8:1 AFR's if I remember right.

I highly suggest you run 2g timing, the 1g timing advance is VERY aggressive especially trying to run 20psi or more on a 16g. I'm not familiar with your tuning software or how to retard timing using it but if you can do it at points across the RPM band heres how you get 2g timing on a 1g ECU (VR-4 in your case).
1k : 0 / 1.5k : 0 / 2k : -3 / 2.5k : -3 / 3k : -4 / 3.5k : -5 / 4k : -11 / 4.5k : -9 / 5k : -8 / 5.5k : -9 / 6k : -9 / 6.5k : -4 / 7k : -3 / 7.5k : -3 / 8k : -3
If your still getting knock its possible its PK (phantom knock) and you'll want to check you knock sensor. If its bad it will show burn marks on the back of it and sometimes a gel like liquid will form on the back of it too. Its also possible the sensor isn't torqued to 17 ft/lbs...

Did I mention that every car is different? ;)

Wow, that's definitely going to be conservative timing advance. I'll give it a try. First I will check the 17 ft/lbs on the knock sensor. It has been a while since it was replaced. Just wondering, could a 2g knock sensor work? I have one sitting around somewhere.

I promise its not that conservative the stock 1g timing maps are that aggressive! Heres a screen shot comparing the two so you can see the difference...

That's pretty! BTW, I'm running the phantom knock code, so the knock must be real. However, I think my sensor it tight, I may back it out and put it to 17ft/lbs as stated. Getting a torque wrench in there is kinda tough if I recall, I'll see what I can do.

Also, I posted the logs here:
http://forums.ds-map.net/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2158&p=27564#p27564

They can be downloaded from the aformentioned site as excel files. You may need to register to download them however. Just a couple of clicks to register - check em out.

I also forgot to mention that you need to do your WOT pulls in 3rd gear from 2.5k to 7k to get a good log to tune with. I mentioned it in the first post I did on one of your other threads but since it was removed, well, you never read it...

Getting a torque wrench back there is damn near impossible but you can get a crows foot on there pretty easily and pop the torque wrench into it. Be aware though that when you use a crows foot to torque anything down theres a formula that needs to be used to prevent over torquing.

Use this to get an accurate torque calculation when using a crows foot ---> Torque Wrench Adapter Calculator

Here is my timing map. A little different w/ 12 load points. Just to give you an idea.

Haha. I like that Timing Advance note at the bottom of your timing map, you should definitely retard timing to something similar to the 2g map or if your using sliders you can pull timing at those RPM points I posted a few up.

Let me know what your results are and remember, 3rd gear 2.5k to 7k.

Here are a couple logs in 4th. File 11-08-2010 3 is with boost near 25lbs. File 11-08-2010 6 is with boost at around 21lbs or so.

Thanks for the help guys.

I was also considering purchasing the following in the next month or so or "maybe" I'll go to E85:

Okay, now how the heck did you do that? I did the code and /code thing with the brackets and it screwed everything up. I even used Dreamweaver too.

I also forgot to mention that you need to do your WOT pulls in 3rd gear from 2.5k to 7k to get a good log to tune with. I mentioned it in the first post I did on one of your other threads but since it was removed, well, you never read it...

:dsm:
Let me know what your results are and remember, 3rd gear 2.5k to 7k.

:dsm:
Here are a couple logs in 4th.
:ohdamn: Do you realize how fast your going doing a 4th gear pull to redline? I don't know about your VR-4 but I'm 135 - 140mph at the top of 4th. That being said the top of 3rd puts you inside 100mph, why do you keep doing WOT pulls in 4th?

Safety is most important but you can also get a better tune logging 3rd gear pulls too.

Pull timing, your hitting full boost at 4k and picking up TONS of knock.

Easy, easy, don't bust my stones too much. I know you care and I appreciate the advice. Now keep in mind, I don't mind going fast and it is done carefully...can't say safely because those speeds aren't safe. However, I let off the pedal once the knock starts, so I don't have a chance to hit the speeds your hitting - maybe 100 or so. Anyway, 4th is what I'm told and I do understand the logic in 3rd. However, read post #13 below:

• View topic - Finally got to post a log. Getting back on the horse.

I'm only doing what is suggested and from now on, I'll do 3rd and 4th gear pulls to appease everyone. It just gives you more range to see what's actually going on, 3rd gear is eaten up too quickly and 4th gives you a nice smoooothhhh log to pick out the points where the problems are happening. Actually, I'd love to hear arguments from both sides regarding 3rd and 4th gear pulls, I'd find the conversation interesting. This is why I LOVE dsmtuners!

Thanks again ;)

I used Dreamweaver as well. When you started a new HTML file, did you delete all the default code the program puts in? If not, that can cause issues sometimes.

No, I didn't delete any of the code, maybe that was the problem. I never had that problem before. Hmmm. I don't know much about html code, so I wouldn't know what to delete. I have to sit down and analyze the code and actually see what's going on. Thanks again for posting and for the help. I hope everyone gets some rep points.

Anyway, going to warm up and make a few pulls in traffic at about 140mph, LOL. Just kidding, but I am going to make some pulls and upload them on the spot while tuning - gotta love tethering the droid!!!

Just when you open up Dreamweaver and select a new HTML file to create, delete all the code. Then import your .csv file.

I tuned the knock down a little and this log is a 3rd gear pull. 8th run for the day. I -3* timing at the last two load levels from 3500 up which helped a little. I just don't feel much power. This car used to hit, but now I dunno. It seems by tuning out the knock, the car runs good, but maybe 13 second times. Take a look and see what you think.

I don't have a crows foot yet to adjust the knock sensor and torque it to 17 ft/lbs, but it feels and looks fine. Never gave me a problem before. Keep in mind, I am running the phantom knock code. I'm at a loss here for now. Gonna head home and see what you all have to add. Disregard the date of the file, btw.

Thanks again.

Log looks 10x better than the ones you previously posted and it looks like pulling timing really helped combat the knock. You can still pull some fuel between 4k and 7k, not much but its getting pretty rich in the higher RPM's. As far as timing goes pull 2* more at 4k and 4.5k to completely get rid of that knock your getting in the logs.

To make your car hit hard on a 16g you run lots of timing advance before the turbo hits full boost to spool it up faster, advance timing from 1k to 3.5k 2* and then dip it at 4k to 4.5k when it hits full boost, then start advancing timing again to redline.

:dsm:

Ahhh, now we're getting somewhere. I'll do what you said and go out on the highway later this evening. I feel so much power when I have timing, maybe I should lower the boost more and advance the timing instead. I'm just wondering how some of these guys hit low 12's with the 16g, I guess it's all regarding the timing and placement of the timing curve. I'll keep ya posted.

More boost (25psi) and less timing advance (10*) without knock TYPICALLY gets you more power than less boost (20psi) and more timing advance (13*). The reason I say typically is because EVERY CAR IS DIFFERENT so if the butt dyno is telling you 20psi and more timing feels faster than 25psi and less timing then listen to the butt dyno. "These guys" hitting low 12's with a 16g aren't running stock cams or pump gas and both effect timing advance and the power curve.

Keep boost where its at and play with the timing thats all you can do, the next thing on your list should be a set of cams or getting setup for meth or e85.

I think I'm ready for E85, but I'm going to lock in the pump gas tune first. Thinking of E85 by next spring since it isn't great in the winter with the hard startups and all. Now for meth, I just did some side work and have almost enough to spring for another meth injection setup. We'll see. Hopefully I can get out tonight and do another few pulls.

Hey man I checked out your logs/tunes. I made some changes an uploaded to ds-map.net. Give it a try when you get a chance. As usual, if you see any knock let up on the throttle and post up a new log. I can't believe you were running 27psi and that aggressive timing on pump gas! That's how you blow head gaskets or worse! Be careful and take it slow, let off the gas and figure out why it's knocking. I'm not an expert tuner by any means but I've been running Jackal for over a year now with good results. :thumb:

I'll check it out and thanks. I'll try your changes first then mine and see what happens. I'll try to get out tonight, I haven't gone yet. Oh, I was running that kind of boost for a while, but I recall having some boost leaks too at the time, but running it this time, it was too much so I lowered the boost. Thanks again.
