i finally found what was clacking under my hood

tonight the ticking that i thought was lifter tick under my hood got SO loud and anooying i went home and poped the hood. i reved it up to about 2k where it usually takes placed and listened... i finally found the source.. in these pictues i circled the lil bugger, but i dont know what it is... help me guys, i need to figure out how to stop this ticking, i think it is also causeing phantom knock and engine is retarding.... PS i also FELT the ticking vibrations on it thats how i know its twhat is tickign. it was about 20 min ago (1 am) so i kinda forgot wich one it was.. i did arrows to the two things... and not these are NOT my engine shots.. mine is cleaner

Are you sure the ticking is from there and not from the intake manifold? Looks to me like what you're pointing at is some solenoids or some other electronic thinggy .

no its those thats ticking, i can feel it clicking inside of the plastic peice and its timed just right with the noise... it sounds electronic...... wtf.

I could be way off, but this will give you something to read.

In my 1g (I know you have a 2g, but maybe location of part is different) when my ICS was going, it did a funky rattle/clicking thing.

180196A MAY 96 Purge Solenoid - Ticking Noise at Idle


So i call the eagle dealership in my town and they pretty much told me to blow it out my ace and they wont mess with it...oph and to replece it, it is over 80 bucks an hour labor.. told the to stuff it. So i guess i will go to a local shop where i see many DSMs roll in and out of, see if they will do it. Thanks for the help, im sure i will get this problem figured out sooner or later , right after i get my act 2100 , my stocker is leaving me in a hurry. Thanks again guys.

The emissions and vacuum hose removal (shown in the link) removes the purge control solenoid. No emissions in florida so you might as well do it!

If you want to keep it legal, just go get another... AutoZone has'em, just take yours off, go up there and ask them to cross reference it in the Wells manual.
