I just got my car back a week ago from a whole bunch of work, mainly tranny rebuild and lsd insert. I don't really feel a difference with the lsd insert. If I punch it in 2nd gear I still break loose. I wanted to see if it is even doing anything so I went behind the rail road tracks in my town and found a patch of dirt and dumped the clutch and both tires dug into the dirt. Does this mean it is working? Or will pavement make it perform differently?

How do other people perform with the lsd inserts?

I'm no LSD expert, but both wheels spinning on dirt doesn't necessarily mean its working. Obviously its easier to spin than being on pavement. Try jacking the car up and having someone spin on wheel while your holding the other. One wheel should not be able to spin independent of the other, and I believe that the wheels should rotate opposite directions. meaning if your friend is spinning his wheel clockwise, yours will want to turn counterclockwise.

I have an insert and they do help although they are not nearly as effective as a "true" lsd.
To test it spin your tires a little bit on the pavement and look for 2 stripes instead of one. Also try some hard acceleration on a familiar choppy road. Torque steer should be noticeably decreased compared to before. This was the biggest difference I saw after putting in the insert. I have almost no torque steer at all now.

I'm not sure if spinning the tire with front end elevated works with an insert or not. I know it takes a certain amount of torque before the insert exerts enough pressure to lock things up so theoretically it should not work. But I have never tried it on my car. Now I am curious.:)

My friends 2g fwd had a insert and he's still on a t25 with basic mods and he already broke with only like 5k miles and it caused some other problems with his tranny so he ended up getting the tranny rebuilt with double synchros but no insert now. I dont know which one he was running but despite how much i desire a true lsd, I wouldnt put any kind of cheap insert in the tranny especially if your pushing over 300whp and launching.

I'm running a custom lsd. My mechanic that does that work that I don't want to deal with (ie. tranny stuff) takes a block of metal or whatever and sends it to some machining shop with some specs and gets custom springs and makes his own custom lsd inserts. He's a dsm owner and pro. I just want to see if this is really working.
