so i rebuilt my 6 bolt block and stuff and put it all back together and then i get oil that jsut somehow poured itself out of the block and onto my garage floor.

i jsut put a brand new 4 layer mits. head gasket.
ARP head studs... i hand screwed them im then i blanaced them out. Used the thread lube on all studs.
I then torqued the bolts down 80 ft lbs.
I bolts everything down properly and it looks liek there is oil leaking out of the head gasket. is there any way i could have warped the head?
I followed the book manual which says to loosen them up starting outside and working in and doing the opposite when tightening them.

I also had the block cleaned up etc. but the oil leak is coming from up top and im not exactly sure.

Is tehre anything else besides the head gaskets that will cause oil to leak all down the block. I also replaced teh stock lifters with revised 3g ones. Also replaced cam shaft seals and some other misc ones. Just tryin to narrow down my chances of problems.

And wondering what the chances are that i have a warped head? thanks.

no i didnt... is that a very important step?

I'd look at:

1. The allen head block off caps on the end of the lifter oil galleys, 2 or more each side I believe, Loctite those in.
2. Head oiler for the turbo, if you're still using that. It's a banjo fitting w/2 crush washers.
3. MLS gaskets require a very fine finish on the head and block. Did you clean the gasket with laquer thinner or brake cleaner, let dry, and then spray both sides with either Hylomar blue or Permatex copper?

haha. I thought the exact same thing when I was doing my 2G HG/ARP head stud install!

Unless the cylinder head is like new (refurbished, new, never used ) there will be some oil still in it. When you put it back on some of that oil leaked onto the deck, and now your head gasket is squeezing it out.

You should have no worries, I take it the car hasn't been started yet, right?

If the car IS running and leaking oil from the head/deck.....you got problems alright.

Might wanna get the ARP's up to max yield and give them another 5 ft lbs. It says they reach max yield @ 85.

Good luck.

on the block right next to where the balance shaft connected to the oil pump sprocket there should be a place bor a bolt, did you put one in that place? if not oil will splooge everywhere. and if you did, did you use silicone to seal it? i know thats not the top of the engine, but oil will come out and fly everywhere, so it could get up there and make it appear as if it was comming out the top

i did not even start the engine and oil was going everywhere. Where is this rod or w/e by the balance shaft? the block was professionally cleaned and i took a wire brush to head and cleaned up all that.

i just smashed thigns and threw stuff

You say the block was prof' cleaned does that mean they surfaced it!! and you didnt surface the head, there must be 200 threads on here warning people about doing metal head gaskets properly!

he said the head gasket was a 4 layer mitsu... is the mitsu hg metal?

I'm sure he means 4 layer steel.

As stated a thousand times before:

When using the steel headgaskets both the block and the head must be surfaced to a mirror finish and you must use copper spray or it wont seal.

This is not good news and can be his worst nightmare.
From his description it sounds like a _lot_ of oil, more than what I would expect from failing to put sealer on a gasket. My fear is he didn't have the head properly seated on the 2 locator sleeves that are set at diagonal ends of the block. If the head cocked and dug in it might have crushed the sleeve so it distorted and is now holding the head away from the block. If he has zero compression on the cylr where the oil is leaking then I'd say this is a very real possibiity.

I hate to think what effect this would have on the head and cams. If it is for sure coming from the head gasket joint then the head must be removed and checked for warpage. He could do a leak down on that cylr which again should show a radical leak that just supports he has a problem and must pull the head.

_Please_ let us know if you take the head off there may be somethings you can try before deciding to scrap the head.

Cheers,
GTM
