I am trying to log a AEM wideband through the hyper terminal on my laptop. I am using a Belkin USB-Serial adaptor. I have confirmed with an ohm test the correct pins for #2 and #5 on the serial cable. Pin 2 is connected to the blue wire on the AEM and pin 5 to ground. Com port is set correctly. The Belkin has led indicators for transmit and receive. They are not flashing, but the power indicator is lit. There is app. 2 volts on pin number 2 when I measure it. Is this correct? Does the Belkin need a certain voltage to activate? Any ideas?

I use the Belkin with the AEM EMS in my 92' so I know it functions correctly.

Thanks guys.

Win XP with corresponding service packs. Hyper terminal 5.0. Ultimatly I am trying to log the WB through EVOscan 2.7 beta 5.

Voltage levels

The RS-232 standard defines the voltage levels that correspond to logical one and logical zero levels for the data transmission and the control signal lines. Valid signals are plus or minus 3 to 15 volts - the range near zero volts is not a valid RS-232 level.

2 Volts isn't right. Digital Meters will sometimes pick up a false reading, that an old style Analog Meter won't.

Also if the line is communicating you will get a bad reading. Its switching voltage levels very fast, so you get a reading of the average voltage levels.

First make sure your Serial Adapter is working correctly with your computer by testing it with another device. Or try sending a message with Hyper Terminal, the LEDs on your Adapter should flash.

Thanks for the replys guys, wind storm came through the other day an tore some power lines down so I was not able to work on this until this evening.

What I have done/tried so far. The light that is lit on the Belkin is actually called "link" not power like I mentioned before. When I hit call on Hyper Terminal it blinks, when I hit disconnect it stops blinking. I also tried higher bits per second rates which did not work. AEM instructions say to set it to 9600.

With power supplied to the wideband I am getting app. 2 volts on the blue wire, NOT hooked to the serial cable. I have app. 10 volts on the USB/serial cable wire, again NOT hooked to the wideband. When I connect the two I have app. 8.70 volts. The Rx and Tx still do not light like they do when I have the Belkin hooked to the AEM ems. I also have the latest drivers for the Belkin.

I may try another brand this weekend.
