hx40 stock motor what cams..?

My bolt-on housing is so restrictive! I've only gotten 60 lb/min from it and only hit full boost at 4k RPM with my heavy old H1E. Gosh darn, I shoulda spent $3,000 on a fancy twin-scroll setup for a $50 junkyard turbo...

It is not "Just holset" turbos this applies too, but any turbo that will be in the mid 20's psi range, and flowing a good lb/min.

Does a 20g fall into the category of "flowing a good lb/min"? They're around 45lb/min.

See this is why I love tuners. So many people with so much knowledge...I have manley dual springs, 3g lifters, and crower 272's. My 16g has hit 30-32psi with the stock valve guides and I haven't had an issue yet.

I am not saying the cast exhaust guides are going to be burnt out in 3 passes at the track.

It will still take some time.

But the more often you are in the 25+ psi range, the sooner they wear out.

Tune and intercooler efficiency will also play a part

The leaner you run the higher the the higher the combustion temps, the more heat the valve has to deal with.

The rule of thumb on inlet temps is for every 1* drop on inlet temp you drop 3* on the EGT

Another thing that will effect guide wear is the valve seat width. A .060 wide 45* seat will transfer more heat from the valve than a .040 wide seat.

I've gotten 67lbs/min through the BEP .55 housing, but every time I upped the housing size I gained noticeable power and broadened the powerband. Drive pressure dropped with each step larger and I was able to run more timing with less fuel.

To do it again.. on a stock longblock budget beater, bolt on for sure. With a head built to rev and clutch/trans to back it up, I would go straight to the Divided T4 without hesitation and cut the foreplay. The spool penalty was not especially severe either.

Just IMHO :D
