I can't find a castl iron welder in my area so I came up with an idea. I want the internal gate to stay closed permanently. So I'm thinking to weld or screw onto the highlighted arm in the picture a piece of metal that will hold the housing and keep the flap in the closed position. Anything wrong with this idea?

Yes you can do that or anything similar to hold the gate closed. Welding cast is simple its to bad you live so far away :p

Had it done yesterday..needed a second opinion just to make sure what I was thinking made sense...

I would suggest putting a weld on the flapper arm, you can also weld the inside of the flapper but if yuo dont have a good welder with the amount of heat from the egt's I have seen the welds break on the inside. Also, if you put it on the arm, then decide to sell the turbo someone can easily grind the weld off and fo internal wastegate again. good luck
