Ive had 235/40/17s on the car for a while, Hankook Ventus (cheap) tires... they never looked very wide. I know that some tire manufacturers measure across the tire in different spots, Goodyears and Yokohama have been known to measure a wider footprint than Khumo, etc.

So, I swapped out the two rear Ventus with Goodyear Eagle HP Ultras of the same size (235/40/17) and they look pretty wide compared to the Ventus. I think the stance and such is awesome. These pics dont look nearly as wide as it does in person. I did have to roll the fenders both front and rear, but I do not get any rubbing in either the front or the back durring bumps or full lock.

What is the widest tire that has been mounted on a non widebody DSM. I know that the wider the wheel/offset the more accelerated the wheel bearing is, but Im just curious as to what is out there.

My suspension setup consists of KYB-AGX Front/Rear Adjustable Shocks, Eibach Sportline Springs, Energy Suspension Bushings, Strut Tower Bar, Stock GST Swaybars, 17x8 38mm with 235/40/17 Ventus (front) 235/40/17 Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra (rear).

I know this is by far NOT the most custom setup out there, but it performs very well over stock. My 1992 Z28 was setup completely for road race, and Im thinking of doing the same when I get a GSX. Would be fun to play with.

Yeah, someone local to me also said they saw someone with 255's all around. Im wondering how on earth you would keep those from rubbing... with my 235's I barely clear the upper control arm and fender in the real. Its VERY close.

Yeah, I see what you mean... that stance is awesome.. its funny though, at the right angle, there is enough roll over to make the rim lip completely dissapear. Hmm...

If you look at the offset on those, it must have been somewhere in the mid to high 30's to make everything fit the way it does. I'm not sure if Dre had done some work on the control arms, but it's pretty safe to assume that the fenders were rolled. Having lived in New Jersey where that car was from, I'll be het had it set up for very little suspension travel since the roads out there are awful. Still a nice example of what big meats will do to the stance though.

I really like your 2G by the way. It certainly looks great for it's age and the styling is very clean.

Thanks. For its age? Its only 3 yrs older than yours ;-) The only cosmetic damage is on the front lip, and even thats not from scraping, its from being towed... I went round and round with them to get them to fix it, but nope. As for looking clean, thats my goal. When Im finished with the car, Im planning on having it look almost completely stock under the hood minus the piping, BOV and Wastegate. The exterior will stay exactly how it is. Im only waiting to install the 16g and supporting mods until I can find a clean way to install the FMIC. I dont like the fact that everyone I have seem with a Smiley, has had to completely gut the front, and remove the fogs. But I will preavail!

You could actually run a Big 16G with a sidemount and do fine. It'll heatsoak after repeated blasts, but you could always offset this with methanol injection if you wanted the car to be as stock appearing as possible. Heck, I run a 50 trim on a large sidemount and it works very well, even in hot weather.

Really? But whats hot weather where you are? Here in SoCal, it gets to 115* and I can feel massive heat soak even with the T25. The intake temps are so hot, Id want at least a small low profile front mount to keep the temps as low as possible. I was thinking something roughly the size of a stock SRT4 intercooler.

Are you running the methanol as well? I dont want to have to worry about having a bottle filled to make sure I have adequate air cooling abilities.

Hot temps to me are 95 degrees plus. Northern Indiana isn't that bad except for a month or two out of the year. If you'll be driving in a hot climate, an FMIC isn't a bad idea. Extreme has the 7" tall core or you can get one of the ebay systems and do your own piping.

And no, I don't use methanol, but I run such low timing (12 degrees) that I can get away with plenty of boost on pump gas even in hot weather.

toyo proxes4 245/40-17's on 17x8 +35mm offset rota slipstreams
the rears are flush with the quarter pannel, but the fronts stick out about 1/2 past the fender

I would be worried if you are running two different brand of tires front/rear. If you think the contact patch is different what do you think of the rolling diameter? If just slightly different you could be wearing the center diff, possibly to failure. I know of one person that this has happened to by running two different brand tires that were the same size.

18x8 RP02's that would fit a 255 under a 2g would have an offset of 35.
