how universal is a 90 galant vr4 wiring harness to a 1g turbo

So I am in need of a wiring harness for my 1g since mine is all hacked up and isnt sensing my barometer. I found a guy close to me selling a 1990 galant vr4 wiring harness. He has cut some of the wires to add like 2g maf and 2g injectors. my question is, would it still work on my 1g or are there other connectors i would have to change as well? He said he has tried putting a 1g harness on his galant but it wouldn't get any spark, but doesn't know if it'd be the same the other way around. Does anyone have experience with this?
 
The vr4 harness will be too short to use in a dsm, ( and not by a little. )


The ecu on your 1g is located behind the radio in the center console area.

On the vr4, it's located on the "a" pillar behind the glovebox.

This means the harness will be waaay to short to reach the ecu


One other thing that puzzles me is that we didn't get the galantvr4 stateside untill 1991, so please verify the year of the harness carefully! (there were 90 model year jdm/other world market vr4's, so they do exist, just not here)

This 90/91 thing is important because the 90 model year cars handled the tps and cas differently than the 91 up models. The 90's had the harness permenanlty attached to the units via pigtails that connected to the main engine harness up on the firewall. On the 91 up models, the harness plugs directly onto the units.


For identification purposes, a usdm vr4 uses the same tps/cas configuration as a 91 up dsm. If there's no pigtails on the cas/tps, it's the 91 up version, (and likely from one of the 3009 usdm vr4's.)


... so if it is trully a '90 galant vr4 harness, it will be a jdm one. They ran the cyclone intake manifold on them beasties, so there's a difference there as well.








Doesn't mean you can't make it work, just means it won't be a simple task.

Finding a 91 up turbo harness from a 1g dsm would probably be a better bet. :thumb:
