No, but its a matter of insurance. That 400$+ crank scraper is good performance and insurance on the build. Just like getting new parts etc.. Yes it adds up, but imagine the const if you dont do it, and have to redo the work 2x and replace more.. You need to step back and see the bigger picture.. 400$ might be 900 or more later.. Do it right or do it 2x for 4x the cost.

Once you start to build something like this your pushing the Design, thus more maint, thus bette parts, all increase the cost, thats why your car is broke now. The prev owners didnt know or want to spend the $$ on upkeep on this type of investment..
