Edmonton,
So, ive been out of the DSM game for a while but am gonna help a friend tomorow as he has recently been having problems starting his car, Its a 1g and I noticed his fuel pressure is at about 30 psi. He has an aeromotive afpr, do i just loosen the screw at the top to add fuel? 37psi without the vacuum lines on for a 1g right? thanks for all the help.

Can do it both ways. I like to check it while the car has been run for awhile & is good & warm, just to verify its still set correctly. If the owner hasn't already used thread sealer, add some before you adjust the pressure. Its common for the Aeromotive adjuster screws to leak. Use pipe dope (the stuff that comes in a stick) as you can re-adjust it, if need be in the future & it should still seal fine. I never recommend Teflon tape, as small pieces can break of & plug orfices they shouldn't.

It will adjust instantly. It's easy to do. Start car. Let it warm up. Disconnect vac line but keep a finger over it so it will maintain vacuum in the manifold. Loosen locking nut. Using allen key, loosen to drop pressure, tighten to increase pressure. 37 psi is base pressure for a 1g. Tighten locking nut back down. Put vac line back on. Done.

K, i guess it was set right to begin with, with the vacuum line disconnected it reads 37-38, but when i connect it, it goes back down to 30. Is this about right? The car still has problems starting sometimes, it takes like 5 minutes worth of trying to get it going.

Temperature has more of a say in how a car should start. If it's especially cold outside, it will be hard to start. I have started my car before in the summer with a pressure reading of 20 psi before when I was first adjusting it.

what is the difference in adjustment of the base fuel pressure in a 1g vs a 2g. I mean is it because of the head. mani. compression ratio or what. What about a 1g with 2g pistons? Is the base fuel pressure still 37-38 ??

Yes. You set the BFP to what the ECU is programmed for regardless of what other mods the car has. If you have a 1G ECU then you set it to 37psi. For a 2G ECU the BFP should be set to 43.5psi which is pretty much the auto industry norm.
