How to combat foggy windows?

My spyder has no A/C, I live in Florida. When it rains I have to keep the windows up or it will flood worse than it already does (leaking window seals). The A/C system is broken, and I dont have the money or the care to fix it. What is the best solution to put on the windows to keep them un-fogged? I've tried rain-x interior garbage, did not work at all.

This would have fit in appearance a lot better...If a mod could move this that would be great.

Just replace the window and trunk seals and be done with it. find some one local on craigslist that is doing a part out and buy them for 15buks or so

The leaking is not what I'm concerd about. They only drip one every 2 min or so when the car is sitting. If I'm driving nothing comes in.

I need something to keep the windows from fogging up.

will crappy door seals cause the car to fog up? My hatch seal is pretty good but my door seals have seen better days and my car fogs up LIKE CRAZY when it's raining. Even with defrost on full it cant keep up (no AC here either)

Keep a towel in the car and sop up all the water that collects in the boot behind the rear seat, that does the most usually since it is the place where water will collect. Also get some canvas tent sealer and use it on the top, as often as not the drips that people describe aren't from poor window seals but instead from poor or insufficient drainage through the water channels. It could also help to take the weather stripping along the outside edge of the windshield frame down and remove the rubber piece that is inside of it about halfway down. From the factory this rubber piece helped to keep the channel open and direct water but 10+ years later it is almost certainly simply crushed and acting as a block to good drainage.

The cloth itself has no leaks. Mostly about 3in down from the end of the a pillars.

The cloth does leak, it did from the factory and always will. What makes it work is that you have drainage channels that handle the small amount of water that gets through and channels them down over the windows then down the windshield frame.

The channels are under the weather stripping against the windshield frame. Go out to your car and open your door, put your hand on the front side of the window and close the door (gently) the weather stripping that you are touching at that point can be pulled away from the windshield frame and there is a little rubber squishy triangle about 3" long about halfway down on each side. The weather stripping goes all the way from the top to the bottom of the frame and you may need to pull a fair amount off in order to get it loose enough to get the pieces out.

We are discussing a spyder here, there aren't 4 channels and it doesn't have a sunroof, at least not in the traditional sense.







While your at it check out this article for a mod to do to your top before it becomes a problem. It is advice I wish I would have taken because my links just bent last week so fix them before they bend.

Ok, so the rubber under the black metal stripes correct?

My links for the floating beam are gone completely. I cannot put the top down until I get that fixed.

Rain-X or similiar product works well. We used Rain-X on a canopy for a solar car in the summer of 99 raycing down the east coast in July. (Sunrayce 99 or "Rainrayce 99" as it was termed. Rained 6 of 7 days of racing. )

To add... we used it both on the outside to repel the rain and the inside to combat fogging.

It is the big piece of weatherstripping that literally goes all the way around your windshield frame, your windows rest on it, your upper fronts of your doors touch it, and your top rests against it when it is up. You just gently pull it away from the sides of the windshield frame with the doors open and the rubber bits are about halfway down.

on some cars that have the fresh air/recirculate option it helps to leave it on the freash air selection on the heater/ac controls, but i live in Ohio so our weather is different.

to stop the fog for a little bit, get some shaving cream and wipe down the glass with it. works great for bathroom mirrors, try it and let me know

If you have a subwoofer and you get a lot of rattling you can reduce it by opening the trunk and tightening all of the screws on the black trim piece that sits just forward of the trunk lid and rests against the top when it is up.

I think the anti-fog is the same product as the original, but it's on wipes instead of just a spray.

I am not sure if it will work in humid environement but it may help a bit, use your fan with air set to "outside" not "recirculate".

My paint is doing great. I have one of the cleaner DSMs that I've ever seen but it also has spent its entire life inside of the garage and doesn't know what snow is. I do have some sun fade on the part of the top that is exposed when it is down.

If you have fog on the inside of the windows, something in your interior is wet. Be sure your hatch drains are clean from debris- I blow mine out with compressed air on my 2G at least once a month.

When I first got the car I couldn't figure out why the hell the hatch window was fogged 99% of the time at night. I pulled the spare tire cover to reveal the spare tire bay had about 6" of water in it.
