How can I know my knock count without a data logger? If knowing the actual count isn't posible, can I check to see just that it is greater than zero?

the guys on SHOTIMES.COM sell a knock guage, any idea if that would work on a dsm?

This sounds perfect! Does anyone have instructions on how to make them or where to buy them?

There are nearly unlimited methods of constructing them. For the sake of brevity, I will give couple very crappy descriptions of the most simple methods.

The most basic would be to find a bolt on the side of the block and loosen it. Take a stethoscope, and pinch the probe between the block and bolt head. A better way would be to get some 3/8" (or whatever) soft copper plumbing and pinch one end shut. Drill a hole the size of whichever bolt you choose (near the centre of the engine) through the tube perpendicular to it's direction. The copper line you can bend and snake past the parts of the engine which are too hot for plastic lines. Shove the end of some sort of flexible line onto the end of the copper tubing, and the other end into your stethoscope.

Voila

There are many better and more elaborate ways of doing this. Search around, or use your imagination.
