OK, here is a write up on how to replace your festoon bulbs in the rear view mirror. Either with stockers or new bulbs like I did.
Tools:
Small Flathead Screwdriver
Small Needle Nose Pliers
Difficulty: Easy
ICTURES ARE IN ORDER OF DIRECTIONS!:
1.)
REMOVE THE INTERIOR LIGHTING FUSE!! And/or disconnect the battery. Or leave it all attached and shock yourself. You wanted a new hairdo, right?
2.)
Push the lighting cover in the direction the arrow is pointing. Only a millimeter should do it and it'll fall out. You are trying to get those tabs to uncover themselves from where they sit in there.
3.)
There is the light. Pull it out with fingers or small needle nose pliers. They are easy and aren't clipped in. They just sit there. That silver metal is most likely aluminum. It isn't conductive. It is a heat sink/heat reflector.
4.)
Here the bulb is gone and this is how they should hang. They don't pull out too far. You will feel light resistance when the wires are at full length. (FYI my pliers were really big ones). At this point if you need to you can push the clips together with your fingers (red arrows is the direction to squeeze) if your bulbs are smaller on the ends (mine were).
5.)
This is the bulb installed. Unlike stock ones these are directional so they must point down. Installing the bulbs can be annoying. So as per the quote I left my clips like that. The are rotated 90 degrees from how they were. They will fit and be fine.
6.)
Reinstall the cover. The yellow tabs go in first as they are the weaker ones and not on the flat side of the cover.. Then you push the rest of cover in. The green clips will snap in place with little effort.
TA-DA! You are done. You may need to adjust how the bulbs sit in there at night when you can see where the bulbs aim. My passenger side was aiming too much toward the driver's side.

I'm thinking about setting these up in the back.
