yea i've got a 92 laser RS turbo awd and i love it . i've had it for like 6 months and nothings wrong with it yet so yea:dsm:

Whats up fellow Mississippian. I just bought a 92 talon awd. Congrads on the new wheels. You should come to Meridian and AutoX that bad boy. :D

Dsm's will be as reliable as many average cars if they are taken care of and the maintenance is done on time.

People that own them usually rev the shit out of them from stop light to stop light for fun, do that to a toyota corolla and come back and tell me its reliable. It will last longer, but will quickly break from abuse

As reliable as the person working on them and the way the driver treats the car.

I drive my car hard for anyone that wants to question me.

hey, I am looking into a 99 GSX in the classifieds on the site...my question is its already got 130k miles on the body..and that worried me..what should be expected and is it worth it?

I just picked up a 90 plymouth laser rs fwd turbo. 205k bought it from original owner since 90!
Guy was about 55years old. car runs amazing. completly stock. clean title.
it really is about who you buy it from and how they drove it. if its not rebuilt, take the time to source out a clean one. :thumb:

Just got an idea of asking other members how their DSM/'s have treated them over the years. Well mine I bought in August and it failed me the next day,LOL. The guy I bought it from new it had a bad HG so got that replaced. It has left me on the side of the road maybe 2x's. At one point I said I was sellin it. And now the worst part is that my motor is done. But, this time I partly blame it on me so im not as mad. So yeah how bout yall?:dsm::talon::laser:

I bought my first 98 GS from a used car lot for my wife to drive back and forth to her job. It was 40 plus miles to her job. The same car I still have as my daily driver, and when gas went to nearly $4 I was really glad I had it. Now, the only keys on my key ring are Mitsubishi keys. I have two 98's and one new '07 Spider. I do all the work myself, even the oil changes. I have had a lot of cars over the years and they are only as good as you are to them!!!!

Well after all the bs i had, it hasnt given me any problems real in the past few months, after i rebuilt my tranny, we have been doing ok.

I got mine 6-7 years ago, 07-17-2007 that's the date i had a problem with mine. P0335 <--the code of the problem. Took it to the closest shop they said it was the crankshaft blade cutting a small belt inside the engine breaking the crankshaft sensor (if I'm not mistaken)

My DSM still RUN like the way the first time i drove it with 144,835 miles in it original engine :D By the way it was my daily driven for 4-5 years rain, snow, sun etc.

Mine has had starter, fuel tb, wheel bearings, clutch, tranny, everything, but has spent winters in the garage, undergoing some sort of transformation, or major maintenace, but now its running great and strong, and to think, my second dsm. Im just getting started with the builds, but thinking about getting a awd, to and take my time for reliabilty, supension upgrades, and skys the limit.

To think i did my first head gasket, first repair to my dsm years ago. Thats one thing most first timers i know would attempt but hey, thats how i learned. Got my tools and book and went to work, next was clutch, suspension, wiring, turbo swap, paint, just about everything. Since then i know every square inch of this thing and how to address it before a problem arises.

Bought mine in 1998 with 19,000 miles. Almost a 11 years later:

Still one of my DD's even in Iowa winters
2 timing belts
Oil changed every 3k
New clutch at 70,000
4 sets of tires
2 sets of rotors, 4 sets of pads
4 or 5 batteries
Paint is faded
Seat belt doesn't return like it used to
Driver window goes up and down slowly

And now with 122,000 miles, I still love driving this car. Not one light has gone out!

Mostly stock *is why im still driving this today* :dsm::sneaky:

I almost bought my own flat-bed trailer to pick up my 1g's when they broke. I hate them.

With the 2gnt, the battery had to be replaced once.

I have had 2 1990 Eagle Talon TSi's (AWD 5 speed) and both have been very reliable. And trust me both have had there share of abuse.

DSM's are as reliable as you make them. Maintenance > performance mods, if you put maintenance over power mods you shouldn't have any problems. It's when people take any old car and start doing power mods that they have issues. I really duno why it's such a surprise to people.

I've got a long list of DSM's I've owned, and I guess they've been fairly good to me.. especially the n/t 2g I had, but that's a long story LOL.
The only one I have now is a 94 awd, and its only left me stranded once in the 5 years I've had it.. thats when the clutch plate shattered. It always seems to have some sort of problem that needs fixed, usually more than one.. but isn't that what a DSM is all about? Its a love/hate relationship.. I kick it, throw stuff at it, threaten to sell it/part it out/have it crushed.. but the next day I come back to it still sitting there where I left it.. and eventually I'm all better and the problems get solved so that a new one can show up and the cycle gets repeated, LOL.

The first three months i owned my GSX i had two blown motors. One was from lack of oil and the second one was due to crankwalk. Life goes on and so does problems with DSM's.

Dang it man, that doesn't sound too fun.LOL but like you said "life goes on an so does problems with DSM's." And mine also messed up do to lack of oil, and lack of coolant. :talon::talon::talon:

My 95 with a 16g and the stock engine was pretty reliable, until I got t-boned by a lady.

My 98 currently has had..........more problems.

I got my talon in November of '07. The day after i got it the hot side of my turbo blew up, replaced it with a 16g. A week after I replaced the turbo, ECU blew up(so bad it even melted part of the board:rocks:). So i finally had it running again by the end of Feb. 08 and drove it daily with minimum problems(bad O2 sensor and the liek) till October of 08 when the timing belt failed. About to get it going again this week.

Reliable? Not so much. Do I regret buying it? Hell no, buying it was best decision I have ever made in my life, no matter how much it has cost me in the year I have owned it.

p.s. I don't even mind getting made fun of for buying a car that is broken half the time. ROFL

My very first talon was absolutely horrendous.
I bought it from a friend in 2001 and it was a 91 Talon Tsi in literally perfect shape. Almost new paint, no dents, and no rust what so ever, new carpet...it was glorious.
Apparently the kid i got it from decided to wire a bunch of stuff himself and that included him cutting the knock sensor to make it faster....uhh...yea. Put the rest of the story together with your imagination as i didndt know anything about the car at that point.

My 95 (im probably going to curse myself), other than drivetrain problems (always a broken shift fork or 3rd gear issue) has probably been the most reliable car i've owned besides for my 98 Oldsmobile Regency haha. Seriously, it runs great :)

I remember when i bought my first dsm many years ago. i had to drive 3hours+ upon purchasing it, i was so nervous!

I've has my 99 GSX for 3 years and took it from 55,000 miles to 103,000 miles. In that time I have only had one major problem and that was a tooth coming off of my fifth gear and causing me to rebuild the transmission.

I blew a head gasket once but it was completely my fault for pushing the car in the summer heat with the boost up to high.
