How much Rubber on Stock Rims?

I have a 1990 eagle talon with stock talon wheels off of a late 1g talon. Not sure wut year talon they are off of exactly considering the wheels were already on the car when i bought it. I'm not very interested in changing the wheels but I want to be able to get as wide a tire on them as possible.

Currently I have 205 55 16 tires. I am not even sure how wide the wheels themselves are, maybe we can even post the different styles and sizes of wheels that came stock on the many years of DSMs. But if anyone can help me, I want to know how much tire i can get on the wheels and what tires you recomend and/or have on your dsm.

well ALL DSM wheels besides 2Gb GSX were 16x6. The widest tires i have seen were 225/50/16 but it bulged out A LOT. I wouldnt go past a 215/50/16 on a 6" wide rim

My 2G had 225 Fuldas on it when I got it. Besides clearing by about 1/8", it made it steer like a damned truck.

i put some 225/50/16 michalin pilot xgtz-4's on my car. Shoulda stuck with stock size as these made the car handle like ass. They had way to much sidewall flex under hard cornering. If you really want wider tires do it right and get wider wheels.

Like others have said, don't go much wider than stock. They'll bulge over the rim and the sidewalls will flex too easily. If you want wider tires, don't be cheap, buy wider wheels to mount them on.

I have rims like that, they came with when I bought my 2g eclipse (my 2nd one that is) I never could figure out what year they came off of and what type.

Well I've noticed alot of 2g eclipses came with the same wheels as mine, only with a mitsu center cap. yours look very clean and I'm not getting rid of mine. Love the stock clean look. Thanx all for the tire advice, i'll weigh the #s when it comes down to buying them and most likely go with some quality 215s or just stick 205.
