I know different paint takes different amounts of paint to cover a car and get the full effect but about how much paint does it take to paint a car?
 :dsm:

typically a full color-change respray (underhood, door jambs, rear hatch jambs, gas filler jambs and the outside of the car) on a car the size of an eclipse, with a 2 stage base/clear, solid or metallic, youre looking at about a gallon for color and a gallon for clear. thats about 2-3 coats of color and about 2-4 coats of clear (depending on the painter). (and dont forget the catalysts, and reducers)

Thanks, I was thinking somewhere around a gallon and a quart to cover my car, the extra quart just incase i needed it or i wanted to do certain areas. I've purchased a paint called Dark Spiral Gray Metallic. Its almost black in shade but when the light hits it, the paint really shines and brightens up. Along the side of my car I'm doing a nice Burgundy stripe and then shoot a H.O.K. candy apple over it to give the stripe some real depth and make it pop. I hope my end results are well what i expect.

Let me know if you think that'll look nice

ive always been told the general rule is 3 ounces per coat per panel. figure 3 coats of base coat (4 maybe is you have a tri-color finish), and 60% application with a decent gun, your looking at 14 - 19 ounces per panel of reduced color.
