How much of a pain is swapping fuel pumps in a 1g awd?

Yours shouldn't be rusted to death like most of us. Still get some PB Plaster and soak the bolts holding the cover down and the fitting on the fuel line under the car and at the pump assembly.
IMHO is safer to disconnect the rubber hose under the car than at the pump assembly and pull it out attached.

Have you read the VFAQs?

Steve

if its rusted add some PB blaster like stated and then try to take it off. its not that hard.

FYI post this in the tech section next time

It should take about a half hour.
It doesnt get much easier than a 1g awd.

Mine had no rust on it and the fitting was so tight that the line wrench rounded off the fitting. So just have a good set of visegrips on the ready if you still have the stock pump in there.

Do as Steve says. I snapped the hard fuel line on mine and had to ghetto fix it (for now).

Make sure you have the correct Flare-nut wrench, or tube wrench, or line wrench: for the fuel fittings. Just like on brake lines you can easily strip the nut using a standard wrench. A vice grip is only for things somebody else f'ed up. :)
