Last time the car was running I had no choice but to put 87 oct in the tank. Would I be able to use 6 point octane booster to jump it to 93? Or is the booster just BS?

Try Google. It's gotta be up there in the top 100 for 'most common questions'

Put it this way. If you could raise octane that much with a friggin pint of mystery fluid, no one would buy race gas again.

ever.

Just don't boost the car if you're worried, since that's when octane counts.

What you can do is go to the hardware store and add a few gallons of toluene. Its expensive but by itself is 116 octane. And gas is made of like 40% if you add a few gallons to 1/4 tank of gas you will notice a difference, the toluene itself is also a great knock deterant.

I just need to run thsi gas out so I can start trying to tune my idle and cruise again. There is only about 2gallons of 87 in it but I dont want to get the tune set on 87 band need to put 93 in right after and tune again. The cars not even running right as it is:cry:

6 points means it would be 87.6 octane. If it was 6 octane "numbers" it would be 93 octane. 10 points in each octane number.

Thats what I was referring to sorry. It claims its 60 points :hmm:
Oh well ill just have to idle the car till it dies and start over with 93

So go drive around for 40-50 miles. Or jump the fuel pump relay and drain into a bucket etc.

It will take quite a while to run out of fuel that way. Semis' get less than 8mpg but can run all night idling and barely make a dent in fuel supply.

If its only 2 gallons that's not to bad. You could always add 1 gallon of toluene and alittle mystery oil for lubricant and run it out that way. With the toluene you would probably be right at 93 with the mix. I used a mix of 92 and toluene for my race gas for awhile before the price got jacked up. And why isn't the car running right because of lack of tune or because of the low octane gas?

Your worried about 2 gallons! haha Try being cheated by a gas station and having to burn a full tank of 87. Drive it like an old fart, a few pounds of boost isn't going to kill it and don't trust gas stations with bags over the 87 nozzle and assume the 91 nozzle actually has 91 in it. Simple

Or just spend forty bucks and fill the rest up with the right stuff

Stuff some cotton balls in there. That will do more than the octane booster.

You do need the extra oil when using toluene or xylene, maybe not when adding 8oz. But im talking about 1-2 gallons. Without it you risk drying out orings or worse rubber fuel lines.

No man, its not methinol or ethinol or alcohol. This stuff basically IS a HUGE % of gasoline it looks like. Gas itself has enough lubricating properties to keep it from
Corroding rubber. It wont do any more harm than race gas would to seals etc. however of you run STRAIGHT toluene, yeah it can do damage to rubber fuel lines etc, But were talking about a 9:1 ratio gas To toluene. i ran 1-2 gallon of toluene in my mix of 9 gallons 92 octane for over a month with no issues. Granted it only boosted it to like 94....i Checked injector seals, replaced them cause i was paranoid like you at first, but they were still like new.

Octane booster is a waste of time & money.

Just drive the car like a civilized person until you need to fill up again

As already stated in this post and many others, octane booster is a rip off. Drive you car easily to a gas station and fill it up with 93 pump. Or, take a 5 gal gas can to the store and put 100 octane in it and take it home and pour it in the tank.

Anymore important details youd like to leave out? LOL Next time put stabilizer in if you know how long its gonna sit. It sure isnt going to help ya now. Id drain the fuel as close to the tank as possible so it cant possibly clog anything up.
