How much is too much when adjusting your BOV

I have a Turbo Smart dual chamber BOV and i wanted to know as many people do how much release is too much when adjusting you Blow Off Valve? What are the advantages and dissadvantages? I am pretty sure i know what they are but i would like to get everyones input. I would like to thank in advance thoes who reply.
 
Bear in mind that the pressure holding the diaphragm shut will be the same as the pressure in the piping that is trying to force the valve open....the spring is in place to assist in holding the valve shut under high boost.

If you're running around 15psi, your valve should be adjusted to there is no flutter at all when you let off the throttle at super-low boost levels (during daily driving). If you're over 20psi, it may be necessary to set the tension stiff enough that you'll hear a little bit of flutter from time to time.

Flutter is BAD....it's trying to tell you that your valve is too stiff and cannot release all of the airflow in the piping, which will cause the airflow to back up in the piping and load the compressor wheel of the turbo. Eventually you'll destroy your turbo if your valve is set too stiff.

so basically on an adjustable blow off valves it is safest to set it right in the middle (not to hard and not to soft). and also i am running on a garret evo III Big 16G turbo
 
Generally, I adjust it to the softest setting that will still hold boost pressure. This minimizes the potential for flutter. If you remove the recirc tube and look inside the BOV while the car is idling (motor under vacuum) the diaphragm/piston should be open.
 
why do you say it like its a bad thing that garret makes mitsubishi turbos? i heard that the stock 8psi turbo which comes in the eclipse stock is also made by garret.

The stock 2G turbo is a Garrett T-25. The EvoIII 16G is made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
 
yeah i was aware that my garret EVO III 16G isnt the same turbo as the evo's have but its not a crappy one. Garret has pruduced many turbos for mitsubishi and other car manufactors in the past, why wouldnt mine be any good?

Here's what you're missing....

GARRETT DOES NOT BUILD THE EVO III 16G; IT IS A MITSUBISHI-BUILT TURBO.
 
The EVO III 16G turbo on your car is not the factory turbo that the car originally came with.

You're right that the factory turbo used on the 2G cars was made by Garrett. But the EVO III turbo is made by Mitsubishi (with the exception of some EVO3 knock off turbos).

Both Garrett and Mitsubishi make excellent turbos.
