I've searched and found numbers around 500, but that was for a gs. Also, I'm curious about the hp it can handle if I don't beat on it. I don't launch (or attemt to) and I don't shift hard. Basically, I'd like to know how much hp it can handle if I'm already in third, for example, and floor it.

Thanks guys

Trust me, I would've had one by now if I planned to keep this car. :thumb: I'll admit it though, you're making me want to get one with those numbers you posted.

Ya, I'll be the first to admit, I really don't mind the GST for daily driving but at the track with street tires, I really didn't like it. You can only go so long, with making improvements & upping power & still turning the same ET, it gets old after awhile LOL With the DR's it actually made the car fun, seeing improvements each run & getting closer to what an awd car would actually run. In the long run, I actually didn't mind breaking the tranny, that was the push I needed to say, I'm swapping to awd :thumb: Though I have no doubt that I could have run 11's this summer if the car was still fwd, with abit more practice on the DR's & a stronger clutch. I still plan on running 11's this year (pump & meth ofcourse) but this time it will be on street tires :sneaky:

Build a W5M33 with a spool, and all the transmission upgrades you want, then when you get the AWD chassis, you won't have wasted money on a trans you can no longer use.

That's what I did. I just finished building my W5M33 with a spool in the center diff. I'm going to stick it in my Colt tommorrow during the heat wave (supposed to hit 45F tommorrow) and run it FWD with no transfer case, for the next season. When I roll it out of the garage in the spring of 2010, it should be in AWD form.
That sounds awesome, but over my head. Even if it's not too hard, I think I'd rather wait and put my money into engine parts. (I'd like to have the parts to run 10's by the time I get an awd). That makes me think of the thread "how to run 10's when you haven't ran 12's." ROFL Anyway, thanks for the idea. I'd like to see how yours turns out, is there a build thread?

My gst was my dd up until three months ago. I hated dd'ing it. I hated the feeling of being next to an escort and not knowing if I could take it. I had to feather the gas so much just to keep it from spinning. :notgood: I guess it'll be worse now, but I won't be doing much dd'ing in it. I'll basically just take it out when I need to hit the highway.

There's definitely something to be said for not needing to change your wheels/tires at the track. It's much cooler to run a given time in dd form!

he is right about that being fwd your tires can spin alot easier than awd to relieve stress on the drivetrian keeping things from breaking.

Everone with comments like this are correct, I have seen several bone stock evo's with destroyed transmissions and premature clutch failures due simply to abusive driving. ie launching like a rail car

It all depends on the condition of the transmission of the way u launch it and on your mods i can tell u running low 16s i blew mine to peaces and this wasent even launching it hard daren_p was there with me that day so it all depends on the condition of the transmission and how aggressive you are driving it .

The stock open diff is defently a weak point. Seems like it can handle a descent amount of power but add a little wheel hop into that equation & there's a good chance of, bye bye tranny LOL

Ahh yes, the infamous wheel hop. This of course leads to the sounds of metal being clashed together, your car dying, vulgar language and banging ones head against the steering wheel as you realize you have no cash to fix the tranny that just fell onto the highway. Damn GSTs LOL.

Thats correct it was my first time at the track haddent realy practiced launching it and was taking off way to hard had to much wheel hop and preety much blew all the teeth on the differentials.
