k well actually how much just to get the timing belt put on right? i was replacing my headgasket, so i marked everything before i took the tbelt off. but in the process of doing everything else, the marks got smudged off... so im scared that i will hurt my motor if i try to line everything up and get it wrong. so if i were to take my car to a shop how much would they charge for that? i mean its a pretty quick job i think... would any mechanic shop be able to do it?

also does any1 know of any other write-ups on how to do it? i mean other than the vfaq

call around and ask. mine was about $450 or so to do the timing belt, tensioner, balance shaft belt, and water pump.
wow!!!!!

They're not really that hard to do yourself, just takes time... me and a couple friends replaced my timing belt in about 5hours, we had no knowledge of the 4g63 engine, but figured it all out... be sure to get a haynes manual :thumb:

I decided to replace the belt since I was replacing the water pump (all the belts and pullies HAVE to come off)... really just get the motor mount off and alternator out of the way for the belt to come off and you're set!! We had to lower the motor and lift it up a couple times to get the crank pully off, but it wasn't hard, just takes time!!!

SAVE YOUR MONEY!! :D

You will also learn a ton about your motor!! Then when you have to take it apart the next time it will be easy!

well im actually thinking about going with my schools autotech machanics cause i can buy the parts and they will put it on for cheap so that estimate will be lower

$500 at Mitsu dealer - I didn't want that kind of responsibility. But do you have the manual for your car? not the ghetto chiltons, a real shop manual? that would help, ya know
