how much can the SMIC handle w/o getting into the danger zone?

damned talon: what is your goals for? track? street? You can go 12.5 w/ the stock sidemount. but heres the kicker:

MASSIVE weight reduction, RACE gas, full exhaust, and turn the turbo up to 20psi. Jay Hass did it.

The thing i see from this whole thread is you want to keep the stock smic as long as possible. Not wise to try and get to a point where a part is NEEDED. I rather have a part there IN CASE its needed. Overkill is much better than underkill.

The stock smic will heatsoak upwards of about 16psi on b16g. Im not even talking about your engine health (detonation, knock..etc). The smic will just not perform well when pushed that hard. Most people compensate for that by using alcohol injection or water. I dont care for those things, just my personal preference. Now if you wanna know how bad you'll be messing your new motor up trying to "max out a smic" get a datalogger. That just sounds bad "max out a SMIC with b16g".

Bottomline spool was trying to say was : just get a FMIC if you want to perform well and be faster.

"So have a slow 16g equipped car, or sell you fuel injectors, get a FMIC kit for the same price as you would have spent on a 16g, and have a fast FMIC'ed 14b car."

man, used buschur and IRC fmic kits go on the trader for $700-900 all day long. a new big16g is 500-600 dollars.

You're better off buying a FMIC and maxing out the 14b rather than maxing out your SMIC. its ALOT safer.

Either way good luck what you choose to do. It is your car and your decision is what is going to count. Hope everything works out bro, pz

You can do 18psi on 93 octane on a 16g all day long.

And screw IRC or buschur kits, make your own for under $600.

i would strongly recommend a fmic. You are going to be a lot more susceptible to knock with the crappy stock sidemount. I have a supra smic, it handled anything I could throw at it without heatsoaking with the 16g. I now have a pte 50 trim, and although its doing ok in the cold weather, I have a fairly strong suspicion that the supra smic wont be enough in warmer weather.

Oh and I ran 20psi on the supra smic and 16g.

Hey thanks, you just brought up another extremely important variable...heat. Demographics should play a big role in what you need for your core type. Where I live we dont really have a winter and its hotter than a hot boy in the summer here. I would love to hear from some folks in hotter climates on how their cores are performing. MKIV & FMIC.

Well I don't have a 16g anyomre, but my 50 trim heatsoaks the stock SMIC by the top of 2nd gear in warm weather. Needless to say my Spearco came in today:thumb:
