My question is could my friend install his boost controller i gave him and turn up the boost even a lb or 2?

He has a 1995 talon AWD 5spd.
original motor 98,xxx
ARP head studs
Mitsu MLS headgasket copper sprayed
no name frontmount stock bov
big 16g no work done to it.
stock o2 housing
intake
3" exhaust from downpipe back
boost gauge
The guy he bought it from said it had a 2100 act but when he launches it on 9psi at 5k the clutch slips like a bi*** and yes he was completely off the clutch. no 2 step or anti lag.
so I'm assuming stock clutch.
stock fuel mods at the moment.
no tuning device.

At the moment the big 16g is running wastegate pressure of 9psi but I'm wondering if the stock fuel mods can handle even 1-5 more psi the way it is set up now.

So whats the max SAFE SAFE SAFE psi on this set up.?
and what is the max SAFE psi with 255 walbro fuel pump and aftermarket fuel pressure regulator?

Were not some idiots that just wanna take a DSM and throw a boost controller at it and crank it to 20psi or something. just wondering if he would gain a few extra horses the way it sits. were not lazy or stupid just low on cash so the other mods would have to wait a bit.

I don't need anyone giving suggestions like evo 3 o2 housing or injectors or tuning device or clutch I already know every single mod he should do and has left to do. just looking for the answer to the questions above period.

Thanks in advance love this site:thumb:

My firend has a 1998 gs-t kinda like mine but not nearly as built, he was wondering the same thing. He ended up cranking it up a bit and didn't notice any problems, he has since put about 350 or so miles down. So I mean I would say give it a go, he said he notices a bit of power difference, not major of course, but enough that hes happy.

When I got my small 16g I ran like 14 psi on it and never had an issue.I finally saved up and got injectors and ecmlink and a wally 255 now.So I got her running 22psi now wayyyy more fun:thumb:Tell him to get a wideband just to be safe.

thanks so far but I'm trying to find a number of lbs of boost. no tuning device and the last thing i want is for him to run too lean and blow the motor over an extra 10hp

Well back when it was stock besides the 16g I had.I ran 14 or 15psi.I did that for like 6 months or so and nothing bad happened.Maybe just run about 12 psi just to be safe.My wastegate was 12psi vacume hooked to actuator to compressor housing nipple.

i would change the the BOV cause they tend to leak.. so no point in turning up the boost if its going to leak... change that..get a 1G BOV cheap and efficient...and since he doesnt have bigger injectors i would say 15-16 pounds would be good..
hope this helps

WIth the setup you have, assuming all maintenance is done, 14lbs. The stock injectors, fuel pump can match fuel with 14lbs. Again assuming the pump orks great, fuel filter is clean, you know...your BOV will be fine, HIS CAR IS A 1G, IT CAN WITH A 1G BOV.

Get a logger to watch your duty cycles and knock values. If you are planning on keeping the 16g, a 190 pump + rewire would be a better option (voids having to buy a FPR). I had good luck with a 2g mas and 550s; they about cancel each other out.
