Thnx

I have a 1991 AWD TSI and I had my motor at 10PSI bone stock. I didn't try to put it any higher but I had no problems with it.

i know people who have ran UP to 28psi with race gas just fine for years. It all depends on the health of your engine.

i myself ran up to 18psi with stock internals. with just ARP headstuds i run 24psi daily driven.

your friend is dumb the stock 2g runs between 13 and 15psi, assuming that you are still on the stock turbo. If your runing a 14b you shouldn't go any higher than 15psi if you are running a stock fuel system.

I'm currently running 16psi on an 18g turbo. The only reason I'm not running more is lack of fuel mods. (all stock internals w/ 140k miles)

Your friend is probably used to/referring to non-turbo cars w/ turbo kits. Our motors (and other factory turbo cars) run a lower compression ratio than non-turbo cars, to be able to run more boost.

8psi on a N/A car is a pretty fair amount of boost, however that is peanuts for our lower compression motors.

Is your friend saying that if you turbo'ed a non-turbo 4G63 that it would only take 8psi of boost? or that the 4G64T that runs 11-14psi from the factory can only take 8psi?

He may be talking about with your setup to keep it at the stock boost level, which is higher than 8psi anyways so you can call him an idiot!

Anyways Im running 30psi on a bone stock rebuilt 6bolt and 2g pistons. With the right supporting mods.

I ran 18 on mine with all stock gear. LOL It was ausome for the 4 miles it lasted. I ended up killing the injectors, Head ( bent 2 valves), head gasket (went out), an crankwalked it. The good side is it was doing ood till it did a 24.3lbs boost spike, oh an my fuel pump was about the only thing still worikng good after.

28psi on pump and race gas for me with all the supporting mods and a stock bottom end.Oh, and a good tune.

i'M running 16 psi on my stock motor with the 14b and no problem, will soon get a walbro 255 to be safer but its fine at 16 psi it run like that for more than 4 years

17 psi for me with a small 16g and all the supporting fuel mods she isnt tuned yet, stock block 148k on it with a newer head and timing belt.

When my wastegate was broke it would go all the way to 30 psi if I stayed into it and I never had any issues.

the stock bottom end is rated at like 425hp capable before it need to be upgraded.. The amount of boost just depends on your supporting mods and what turbo you have and how much it can handle..

So I guess what everyone here is trying to say is: You can run your car at anywhere between 8 and infinity psi, though the stock car will generally run between 10 and 14 psi from the factory.

As long as proper maintenance is done and there are no other faults, the car can SAFELY run the stock pressure settings. With upgraded fuel, you MUST have an aftermarket boost gauge and datalogger before messing with the boost, and ONLY THEN will you know how much boost to run. Anything else amounts to bench racing and flat out guessing.

Turn the boost up till the engine blows, then pull it back a bit. :tease:
