Winnipeg,
Anyways got my rims and man do i love them. I posted about rims before and thanks for your help guys i will post pics later. But anyways i got 18" rims and n3000 rubber. But anyways i'm thinking 1.5 inch in front and 1.3 in the back. I would like to know is that to much for the stock shocks.. 1.5"? Like.... will my head go up and down when i drive....LOL. Also i heard horror stories about lowering the talon is it hard to install springs. I was thinking getting eibach or intrax. Which brand is good?

For perfect driving conditions i found these shocks/ spring combos. Not only would it be easy to install, but it will be as cheap as getting springs but you get much more. http://cgi.ebay.ca/KYB-GR-2-SHOCKS-...ryZ33590QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
http://cgi.ebay.ca/TOKICO-HP-SHOCKS...6QQihZ005QQcategoryZ33590QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The seller has great feedback. They look like the real thing to me. But anyways my main question how much can a stock suspension handle because my buddy lowered his talon 2" on stock suspension and it rides like shit. But i just wanna lower like 1.5 think it will look good. Also yes i will install ingall camber kit too.... I will post some pics later and let me know how low i should go. Thanks!! :thumb: :talon:

It depends on the car, how old it is, what kind of abuse it has had. To do it right the first time you should replace the struts with the springs. Otherwise you may end up having to do it again anyway.

When selecting suspension components out there, it is a good rule of thumb that you get what you pay for. Eibach is a good brand, and the pro kits will get you about where you want to be. Where you dont want to cheat yourself is the struts. Those gr-2s are the cheapest strut KYB makes, and while it is considered an OEM upgrade, they really do not match the quality that is provided from OE, keeping in mind OE manufacturer is KYB. If you search you will find alot of bad and good reviews for those struts. If it were me I would hold out for Koni reds.

Stock shocks are only designed to operate at stock height. You will be really sorry and will eventually blow your shocks if you lower your car without upgrading.

Illuminas + prokits are a favorite around here, but I would look into H&r and Tanabe springs as well.

It is also my opinion that AGX's, HP's and Gr-2's are not worth purchasing, just somethign to keep in mind.

When I bought my car the shocks were SHOT. When we pulled them off you could easily compress the strut and it would not come back up. So I replaced my struts/spring first.(My brother has a DSM also) and with the Prokit/Illumina combo my car dropped alot more than the 1.2 the prokits claimed, but rides a hell of a lot better than it did. I don't like it this low with the streets here so i am going back stock springs.

My brother on the other hand had a drop approaching 2" with the same set up. I have read and been replied to on posts that more than a 1.2 drop is common with a DSM. He is keeping his he loves being so low.

Mine now with 18" Konig Unknowns, and hard turns I rub and bumps on the freeway at 60+ mph I will get a rub. My fronts are set at 3 for the Illuminas.

Don't know if this helps just what I experienced two times with the Prokit/Illumina combo.

I heard if you get the eibach pro kit you don't really need the change the shocks because there good springs. These eibach springs lower the car 1.3" nothing too serious. Should i still change my shocks? Like i'm not lowering that much.... max is 1.5....:coy: Also my car hasn't been beaten and the shocks are in good condition.

Okay what are good shocks/ struts and where can i get them? I dont' want anything serious just want a nice smooth ride and i'm on a tight budget.

I dont know why people always knock on GR-2's? They are just repeating what they heard of by heresay and word of mouth... I highly doubt all of these people have tried every setup on the market... I have the GR-2 and prokit, as well as all the other suspension upgrades, and you have to remember, people just do one on suspension, and that is why it rides like crap. You have to do it all, not just one... I love my setup, it can handle any horsepower or crazy a$$ turns and slides i throw at it... trust me.... and when you do get a decent setup, alot of the problems like camber, understeer, and the slop from rubber bushings, will be able to correct it with the right setup. I have no problems with mine, at all and I love it....

im going to order some kyb ( dont know if theyre gr2 or gab or what model or anything ) but there adjustable and Im getting them only for the back and im thinking on setting the back almost on full stiff... I have 2in drop in the front and no drop in the back, but im still on stock struts all the way around, and Im going to take my lowering springs off this weekend until I can buy some konis or something from the front, ( My 2in drop doesnt really look that low to me, maybe because I have bigger tires but im still on the stock rims, i just went 1size bigger in tire.) Any input on that set up or ideas of what else I could do.?

see ^^^ this is what I am talking about... :beatentodeath: People dont understand the importance of this... They dont do the research enough, then splurge on it... THey are called the AGX's, the KYB adjustables... Why only for the back? ANd you are keeping the stock springs and shocks for the front? What? I have an idea, wait until you can AFFORD it, then go and buy something. Dont cut the corners, do it right, and you will be better off, ask anyone that cares about thier DSM's, they will tell you the same thing....

Well depending on how much your willing to spend the gr2 is half way decent. But they are better than the oem shocks. My buddy just put them on his 2g and i personally think they ride a lil rough but thats just me. If i was you i would get something that adjustable. But like i said before it depends on the money. Good luck with your descision.

+1 or any car for that matter.

I have not had a problem with my setup, and check it out in my profile... I would rather have that than front non adjustables and rear adjustable and have no idea what I am doing or buying so I will just do it cause someone else said so, whatever.... this is the crap that gets to me.... Do it right...

I made the mistake of just putting Tein H-techs springs on and not shocks at first because I just couldn't wait to see the car with out the fender gaps. Needles to say as stated in previous post. Two weeks later the shocks were blown and the car rubbed and eventualy was sitting on the bump stops. I would suggest getting a good pair of adjustables like the KYB AGX's like I did or hold out for the koni's. In my experience, I wish now that I would have saved up a few more dollars and splurged on the fully adustable Tein coilover set.

Also, don't trust the ride hight stated by the manufacturer. Go from other peoples experience. Even then it seems like it can be .1 or .2 of a inch off. I found by doing some research that the DSM's commonly have a slight lean to the drivers side as well. That you can only correct if you get coilovers. Good luck and great wheel choice by the way.

So i should just get KYB adjustables? Also i should get shocks not matter how low i lower my car? Planning to get eibach pro kit and lower 1.3 all the way around on stock shocks and struts. If not what should i get for a good price.

Actually I do understand the importance of it now at first i just wanted to get something on quick and cheap to get rid of my wheel gap but that was awhile ago, I am buying kybs for the back, ( and I didnt remember exactly what they were called I just knew they were kyb something but i havent purchased them yet so it doesnt matter ) and second yes i am getting front struts also so i can put my lowering springs back on and im going to put it all at once, not everyone has the money to buy everything at once so im just going to buy part by part.... Whoever said i was cutting corners.... I understand your point but your aiming it at the wrong person, all i was doing was asking a question about the set up I had in mind with kyb adjustables in the back and konis in front with 2in drop in the front and no drop in the back.... Your over reading my post....

and yes it seems dsm do have a lean to the drivers side, at least mines does, and yea I dont trust ride height either, because my springs said 2in but they dont seem to measure out to 2in seems more like 1.5. In the future i may contemplate a coilover set up.

Okay what are the best shocks for my car if i want to lower 1.5" all the way around?:sosad: Also what should i get for a smooth ride. Such as i know i need shocks, camber kit,.....what else?

A camber kit will not do anything for handling, all it does is save rubber caused by excessive drop leading to negative camber.

If you want a good cheap setup get Eibach Pro and Tokico Illuminas. After you get it installed, get an alignment. The average drop on a 2G AWD with Eibach Pro is 1". If you want more than a 1.5" drop, get Eibach Sport which is a 1.7" drop, with Tokico Illuminas (Konis if you can afford them), camber kit and alignment. If you have a body kit or drive around slopes/hills, you WILL scrape the bottom of your front bumper with that much drop.

How low can these tokico illuminas handle

Some more info..,

"Tokico Illumina 5 Way Adjustable Shocks
These are our favorite for the 2G Eclipses. They are less harsh than the GABs or AGXs and more adjustable than the Konis. There is a 5 way adjustment at the top of the shock for both the front and rear shock for convenience. Turing the adjuster stiffens up both compression and rebound damping. Eclipse and Talon. Guaranteed by Tokico as long as you own your car."

If you are concerned about blowing the shocks, Tokico has an Advanced Handling Suspension Kit that comes with Tokico Springs and Tokico Illuminas, and it will give you a 1.75" drop too.

"Advanced Handling Suspension Kits from TOKICO improve both handling and appearance. The kits combine either the HP series of performance non-adjustable shocks/struts, or the Illumina 5 position adjustable shocks/struts with a matched set of performance lowering springs.

If your on a budget, just get the eibachs and then take your kyb's, cut them 1.5 inches and have them rethreaded.
It will at least get you where you want until you can afford the good stuff.
If you're really on a budget, you can collapse part of your stock springs by heating it with a torch. The rate changes a little, but not so you'd notice. I would only suggest it if you have an extra set kicking around and are experimental.

Also, someone posted that they only lowered the front 2 inches, but nothing in the rear. Your car probably handled allot worse. All you did was transfer a hole bunch of weight to the rear of the car. That's why the front didn't go down that much, the rear was picking up the slack. Picture your car sitting on nothing but springs. When you raise the height of a corner or end, you add more weight to that corner. When you lower a corner, all of that weight is transferred to the opposite corner. When you lowered the front, your ass became heavy.

I race a stock car on friday nights and have done all my own scaling. 1/8 inch height in one corner can transfer 15 lbs Granted we have roll cages and the chassis are allot stiffer, but the principal is the same.

Someday I'd like to afford adjustables for the talon all the way around and just for haha's see how the different settings adjust the weight around the car.

Just get the tires that are designed to not wear due to negative camber. I think there made by toyo.
