how long to remove engine 2g gst?

so as a few know already, after 300 miles my fresh rebuild developed a light rod knock. bad juju. so, im eager to pull the engine when i return from business trip. id like to think i could do it in 12hrs. am i in the ballpark? then i have to strip accessories and all the stuff, i know that will eat up plenty of time. im going to be thorough and bag, label every connector and bolt so itll go in faster when i reassemble. i dont think the machinist(who is warrantying this thank god) will even have to remove head but im going to pull IM and exhaust mani and everything just in case.
so ya, how long do yall think this would take?

Depends on if it's an auto or manual. Auto's are much easier cause you can leave the transmission in -- 1 hour.

I hope it wouldn't take 12 hours, WOW.

From start to finish I can get an engine and trans pulled in about 5-6hours and I take plenty of smoke breaks. That's removing the head as well. The most time consuming part is getting the axles out of the trans.

its a manual so its all gotta come out in one piece. thats the easiest way. i should have engine pulled and stripped down ready for machinist in 12hrs total. cant wait to get this car done RIGHT! its SOOOO close.

Time is not something you can really say, to someone that has done it may times it will take the x amount of time but usaually it will be that constant time. To someone else like yourself if you never done it before it could take you 1 day 2 days 3 days 4 hours 5 hours or 6 so get to wrenching. This is also if you have all the help u need to get it and and the supporting tools.

I like to drop the transmission first and then pull the motor. I've had best luck with that.

With all the correct tools and NOTHING goes wrong expect 4 hours at the minimum.
Also depends on how many times you have done it and i will agree, removing the engine w/trans is simpler. Good luck!

If its recently been out then 4 hours tops. I had my auto out and disassembled in 2 hours and it was my first Dsm engine swap. I also lifted the short block out by and. No cherry picker needed. Take out the rad, drop the exhaust and pull the intake and exhaust manifold first after ypu disconnect all the engine wiring. then the belt system and your ready to come out with it.

about 1-2 hours labeling everything and about 2 hours on removal. i would suggest removing the tranny with it because it making the install a hell of alot easier

i would prefer to remove it as a whole. thats the only way ive ever pulled fwd engines anyway. the risk of bending or damaging something trying to pull the tranns seperately while the engine is in there is too high. ive put far too much time and money in at this point. ah well, i get back friday. will be working sat morning. i have a cherry picker and everytool you could imagine in the shop ill be using. labeling is going to be the most time consuming i think.

I have always split the tranny and pulled the motor seperate. I have done it several times.. Takes me probably 3 hours tops.

12 hours is a long time. I can pull engine and tranny out of any eclipse 1g 2g turbo or non awd or fwd in about 3 hours tops with awd and about 1-2 with fwd. Then taking anything else off is cake when its all out.

First time took be around 7 hours. Every time after that I seemed to trim an hour off but I've plateaued at 3.5 - 4hrs

On a fwd I think 3- 4 hours is plenty of time. I personally like to pull it out with the tranny attached but on a dsm separating the tranny in the car is simple enough.

Yes your fwd will be faster. not having to pull the axles, drop the tcase and driveline. but with all your labeling you want done it will take a little while expecially with labeling little baggies of bolts. if you have a buddie help tell them to unplug the harness while you work on other things its alot faster.

To be honest most bolts on a dsm only go in one place and if they can go in more then it doesn't matter. Don't drive yourself crazy with it. And yeah you'll probably spend as much time on the harness and lines then you will on anything more mechanical . Just pull all that shit out while the fluids are draining and you should get it done pretty quick.

thanks for the info guys! as always, very helpful. vrsf fmic, brand new mhi evo3 16g, and 3" exhaust on the way. oh and decided to go with a set of 272's since im in there anyway . im set, as long as my machinist has better luck the 2nd time in, i will be ready for more tuning and waaaaay more power. damn, everything on this car is gonna end up being brand new! . its a toy, gotta have fun with it. ill report back. later
