read his post again....

Put your damn filter back on, or go out and buy a high flow jobber... running your car without a filter is almost as smart as premixing your fuel with sugar.
ok smart guys, i havent taken filter off permanently. It was just curious why is my car not running good at high rpms (EVOIII). My friend has b16g and he is faster than me with almost same modifications. So i taught maybe my filter is dirty..... or i have boost leak some where.

I didn't direct that post to you, did I? And to stay on the subject, why would you even think about taking off your air filter? Besides that, your car is supposed to run like shit w/ out your filter.

could be because of the intercooler, maybe not big enough or too big!

If your car is not running well at higher rpm's then check some of the easy-to-replace items. Like your air filter or fuel filter and deffinetly check for boost leaks. Whatever you do, do NOT take the air filter completly off even if it's for a quick test run. All your doing is running a risk of sucking a foreign object into the turbo and fouling it up. Also just because your "friends" car is faster doesn't mean his is better or something is wrong with yours. It could just be the driver and I'm not insulting you by saying that. Some people can just drive their car a lot better than others. Just try some of the above options and let us know how it goes. Good luck :thumb:

That's not true. No air filter on my car and it runs just fine.

Apologies then, I misunderstood your post, I interpreted it as you were running around without a filter because you wanted better airflow... which would be completely foolish... I'd look into a boost leak, it's a good possibility. Running without a filter shouldn't make any difference, and won't hurt your car in most cases, until you suck some foreign object into the intake that shouldn't be there... it's not there to provide any kind of backpressure or flow restriction, it's just there to make sure the air is clean... so if it's dirty, get a new one, but it doesn't sound to me like that's the issue... check out that boost leak, that's the best place to start... also for future reference, if you take a little longer to properly explain your problem you'll get far fewer smartass remarks.

So your friend is beating you and you two have similar mods?

Maybe one is a better driver than the other

Goodie, yet another shitstream to put a dam across.

Your MAF may be getting more-turbulent air without the air filter than with it, and it is having trouble getting a steady reading because of it.

Come on, people. Act like you all belong here.
