I uh.. made a boo-boo. installed a new turbo, small 16g. ss oil line from oil filter housing. disconnected the spark and primed the pump. i had a leak... so i fixed it.. and started it without priming... (i forgot) It was a terrible start, got oil pressure in like.. leaps.. started low, then jumped up to like 30, then 40, then 60, then 80 and help.. all withing like.. 8 seconds.

i freaked out for a while, but then it ran fine. it did it again this morning.. not sure why.. but i had been leaking out last night and planned on fixing today, which i did. so it happened twice on me. same thing. the next few times i made sure i primed it EVERY time. no matter what i did. anyways...

now i'm all freaked out and i think i have knock. im on my second engine.. with about 5k miles and this would completely destroy my bank account and my transportation for quite some time. I want to know.. how good is the knock sensor at detecting knock? Will check engine light come on immediatly? Or will it take a few days? I already know my egr is throwing a code.. so I guess I'll check it when it comes on next but.. damn i'm freaked  :( :sosad: :notgood:

Well, I looked into a datalogger and bought a kit last night. Hopefully i'll be able to check for knock. But please, if anyone knows for a fact i heavily damaged my engine, lemme know.. Still no check engine light.

I think you may be a bit confused on what a knock sensor does. A knock sensor just tells the ECU if there is any detonation in the combustion chamber. It listends for noises and then lets the ECU know if it hears something. If it does then it retards the timming to make it go away. Rod knock. if loud enough, can cause this and the sensor will pick up the noise, but all it will do is reduce timming. No lights will come on unless you have a special chip that is setup to do so. You will here knock when you first start the motor, if you have it, unless you have heard it then I woudn't worry about it.
