How do you tell what size the currently installed pistons are?

I am getting ready to order the parts for my engine rebuild, and I want to buy the 20 over pistons but I need to know that it hasn’t already been bored over before. If it has already been bored over then I will need to buy a larger size than 20 over which would suck. Does anyone know how to tell what size the pistons are? I can see that there are some numbers on the tops of the pistons.

More than likely it is the stock bore which i would get the 20 over pistons if the car was stock when you got it I'm sure that its the stock bore. you could get a caliper or even better a mic. and find what they are and then get the spec. on them from someone i do not remember what it is off hand. But good luck.

If your engine has never been apart, it's a stock bore and you can pretty much go twenty over. If you're really not sure about things, you could buy another block and have that measured to spare you the down time. Personally, I'll never pull the engine out of my DSM again unless there's a new one ready to go right in. 18 hour job imo.

The engine was running so badly that I went ahead and pulled it since there was no major damage yet.
