How do you tell if the lifters are bad

My car starting clacking really really lound one day I didnt touch anything just started her up and it was clacking. How Can I tell if they had gone bad. Can I visually see if they are? The clacking continues when I give it gas, it goes with the rpm's. I have the big bore lifters installed only have 5000 miles.

Take off the valve cover and look around, see if any of the rockers have came loose or might possibly be jumping around in there. Who installed them? Did you oil them before installation?

I just finished taking each lifter out and inspecting it I looked for anything unusual like scratches and things like that. There where little ones but thats just regular wear and tear. The shop that rebuilt the engine had installed them. Maybe its a rod bearing or something but I did install federal mogul bearings on em. I want to goto the junk and get some lifters and try using a diferent set to see if it makes a difference. Will lifters out of any turbo or non turbo 4g63 work?

I hope your bearings are not making that noise. But, it sounds like that... what RPM range you hear this sound? Does it go away ones you get into higher RPM range? How is your oil pressure? Take valve cover of and try to start your car without spark plug cables, then you can see each lifter and rocker does is spill oil out of it....
