I bought a 14b on ebay cuz my dsm's turbo has just aged and is smoking white smoke when I started.i don't want to take my car to a shop cuz its basically best sitting wear it is untill I take care of it.If anyone has guide or walkthorugh on removing a 14b and putting a newer one on please help thanks?I'm newbie to tuning and this would be a great start for me.

Step 1: spray all the bolts with PB Blaster and let them soak

Step 2: drain your oil/coolant and take off the heat shields

Step 3: disconnect the 2 rubber water lines that go to the turbo

Step 4: unbolt the 2 bolts that hold the oil return tube to the center cartridge of the turbo

Step 5: unbolt the oil feed line fitting that goes from the head to the top of the center cartridge (may be easier after step 6)

Step 6: Break free the 4 bolts that hold the turbo to the exhaust manifold and let it drop down

Step 7: break free the 4 bolts and 1 nut that hold the o2 housing to the exhaust housing of the turbo

Once that is complete, you should be able to pull the turbo out and put the new one in following the reverse of these steps.

The 2 most helpful items that you can have is a Haynes manual or any kind of a teardown manual on your car, and this web site. They include pics and all the instructions you need.

I would not be able to do it any time soon as I'm pretty busy these days if mean by coming to help you do it. If you mean call me when you run into a snag, then just post it here, I almost live on this board as well as other knowledgeable DSMers! It's really not too hard to swap your turbo, but that comes from someone who has done it before. :) Also, I posted the pics of my pull to show you what I removed from the car and what I left attached to the turbo. I'm about to take my car to a shop cause I am running out of time to figure out a different issue, possiably electrical.

Nice job so far. I'm sure if you have any snags along the way people will be happy to answer your SPECIFIC questions.
Thanks! :thumb: But I'm not the one having issues swapping my turbo. :)

Don't let it scare you. If you know anything about cars just get in there and do it. Hardest thing is some of the bolts when talking it out. I myself take the manifold loose and pull it out all together.
