how can i find TDC?

alright the head is off, i managed that much, now that i have the new head gasket and studs in. i gotta make sure to get my timing right, since this is my first time. is there a way to tell my piston #1 is at TDC without taking the crank pulley and lower timing cover off? or am i already in too deep

No your going to have to take the pulley and lower cover off to line up the oil pump sprocket, BS sprocket, crank and then your cam gears. All these must be at proper TDC to make the timing correct.
