Whats going on here, everybody hoping someone else will be the guinea pig? Thats just a little more money than a set of good shocks.

I'm definitely interested - but as in the other thread (my 1G "best" coilover thread) - someone asked, how will these compare to the Tein SS-P setup? If it's a "street race setup" - does that make it better/same/worse? I'm looking for something that'll do exceptional at autocross and lap days, but also give a half decent ride on the street.

For $850 - I'm definitely interested - I just want to know if where I"m putting my money is worth it.

From the looks of things, you can set these up for ANYTHING (well, the street set has shorter damper casings so you can lower the car). I've kept a correspondence with Peter over the last two weeks and he's been nothing short of helpful as hell.

Compared to the SS-P,

Tein - Twin Tube : HB - Monotube
Tein - Bleeder Valve Adjustable :thumbdown : HB - Non Adjustable
Tein - Compromised for street : HB - Set it up anyway you like
Tein - Won't revalve dampers : HB - Will revalve dampers for any spring rate requested
Tein - $1400 MSRP :barf: : HB - $850 with group buy

Those are just a few points. As Peter has said, these shocks seem pretty overbuilt, especially for street (who hits tree stumps on 5th avenue?). HotBits is a smaller company, too, which means their Quality Control can be easier managed than a huge operation like Tein. And from the looks of things, Peter can set up your damper/spring set a-la John Mueller, based on your requests.

This sounds like a great deal. I couldn't get anywhere on that link you provided, but I perfer this setup to anything I've researched so far. The site says the race/street model is currently under construction. I'm definately interested. When does the group buy start and how exactly does it work? Forgive my ignorance, but I've never been part of a group buy. I can't believe the lack of interest in this thread! I found a company selling koni yellows/h&r springs for $750 and thought that was a good deal, but this deal is incredible.

I see HotBits has suspension for the early 90's Galant ?

I believe that's the generation the 2G DSM is based on.

Galant VR4s and 1Gs share the same suspension, except the GVR4 rear shocks are 1/2" longer. The Hot-Bits shocks are the same for the GVR4 and 1G, just different springs and valving.

Late 80's/early 90's Galants are 1G DSMs - early to mid 90's Galants are 2G DSMs, approximately 93-95, the E56A Galant. HotBits lists dampers/suspension kits for 93-95.

It's too bad this post was made 30 minutes after I ordered my Koni's and H&R's today. I've heard good things about Hotbits and would've jumped on this.

The group buy price is set at $856, but you have to pay duties, taxes, freight, and brokerage. Duty is about 2.5%, a handling charge would be 1/4%, and brokerage is usually $30. Which, if you do the math, comes up a little short of a grand. A minimum of 10 kits need to be sold for the group buy (All the DSM forums included, 3Si, GVR4 and DSMTuners, so I don't think it'll be a problem getting nine other kits sold) price to be honored, so place your orders! A 50% deposit will also be required. Shipping from Malaysia will take six weeks, and production, two weeks. You pay the shipping from Canada. You also need to order by October 15, so the kits will be delivered by early December. If you want to place an order request, you have to send him an e-mail at [email protected] . That's pretty much all the .PDF file he sent me said.

I hope this answers any questions for now.

To all interested. As for me, I'm emailing Peter this morning. This deal is to good to pass up IMO. :thumb:

Yes. I spoke to Peter this past friday and he's asking a broker friend of his to give us a discounted flat rate. So brokerage may cost less than $30. :thumb: And from what I hear, the group buy has been almost met, so keep putting them orders in! We need at least ten to get the discount price.

Peter has a rally this weekend with the 1G, so he'll have some new data for the street setup.

I received a reply from Peter this afternoon. He said that he's allowed some people in the rally community to join the group buy and that he already has 10 commitments. I guess I make 11. I can't wait to get these thing on the GSX and hang some curves.
