Will be replacing the two one DIN radio and CD units that came with my 91 with one single DIN unit. Out of curiosity, I check out a few dealers on parts.com to see how much the DIN pockets and bezel would be.

For the pockets, it's $349.58 !!!

The center panel of the dash (the one that surounds center vent, climate control, and radio)... $125.12

And guess what the listed price is for a stock radio... get ready to laugh your heads off...

$1,072.07 !!!!! =:O

Are these things made of diamonds and precious gems? Unbelievable.

give me that money, i'll install all that for you for that or less and better equipment even. dealer prices are a ripoff unless you know people there:thumb: :D

i priced an ecu from the dealership 1300, flywheel bolts $5.02 each head gasket which the guy also stated its no better than a fel pro $65 2x more than felpro. i was soo tempted to ask how much a evo 16g was but i dont think i could handle what i may hear.

they want 40 bucks for STICKERS! i called to get a new "ECLIPSE" sticker to paint red and put on the insides and those bitches were like oh that will be 40 bucks, i was like umm.. no thanks and hung up.

Dealers can get away with it because more than half of their customers are the ones who don't or can't change their own oil. They just don't know any better...

Plus, on a older car like the 1Gs... we're at their mercy for new replacement parts. However, I certainly didn't expect that much for a simple plastic DIN sized pocket.

its sad how these parts are available to the public but u gotta go to the dealer to get em new. why cant there be aftermarket dealers like Year One for DSM's to get these parts at alot less $$ most car manufactures will sell there old dies, molds ect to aftermarket manufactures to make oem parts that are no longer available.

1 Stock 17'' TSI rim is 310 dollars
Replacing rear wiper motor, 300 dollars (bought off dsmtrader for 20)

yeah, it's rediculous. i brought mine in for warranty work, and it had a coolant hose leak.. which cost me 109 dollars because it was 'maintenence' :( good thing they didn't tell me i would have to pay.. else they wouldn't make so damn much money.

There were Congressional Hearings about this in the seventies, asking why a $4,000 contained $30,000 in parts. I wonder what they'd total up to in this market.

Oh, and the conclusions of the Hearings? Well, they just do. Effing politics.

What was it for an ashtray, $65? It's all insane.

Oddly enough prices for some of the parts are acutally somewhat reasonable.

For example, the headliner with sunroof is a little over $50.

The ash tray is $14.

Sunroof glass is $386.82! Yikes. No, that isn't one of the more reasonably priced items.

Enough to buy a Ferrari probably.... considering a CD player costs over $1000 and some of the parts have been discontinued... which means you'll have to make one-offs.

a couple of years ago, i had my car at the dealership. Back then i lived with my mom, and i wasn't available when they called. She said "just do the work and get it done".

when i got the bill, they charged $240 to replace the spark plug wires.it was like $100 parts and $140 labor. I almost crapped my pants, thinking 'i should get into the spark plug wire chaning business:thumb: '

Mitsu dealer =  :barf: :thumbdown

I remember calling and asking how much a 4 bolt rear end w/lsd was for a 94 I think. I first told him it was for a 90 and he tries telling me it wont work  so anyway I just ask him how much and he told me a new one would cost $1800... I was like "um... yea I think im going to check some local junkyards" Saw one on DSMTrader exactly what I wanted for $400...

If you think thats something though look up the price on a new hood for a Viper ;) $5,500 if I remember right. Now you know there is no way in ####in hell it cost over $200 for them to make thoughs hoods..

Or how about plug wires for a Mercedeys (sp?) I think that was around $800 (or so a ford mechanic told me)

I was at the dealer here in salem oregon bout 2 weeks ago and out of curiosity i ask the price on a T-25........
the guy said....$$$$1,989 OMFG!!!!!!!!

The real question is why aren't you buying parts at Conicelli so you can get 25% off of list price? And those prices you listed are higher than list, most likely.

www.partznet.com is your friend. I find parts for our cars to be quite reasonable, actually.

Well I went to get my o2 sensor replaced in my 2g, the rear one. Since no store has them up here I had to goto the dealer, they charged $400 for the part installed! That pissed me right off. $200 sensor and $200 for labour my ASS! :thumbdown  :thumbdown

He was looking up the wrong part. I bought the 2 DIN bezel and lower pocket from my local dealership for about $25 total. I have the parts numbers around here somewhere... I'll post again if I can find the invoice.

No sir. I did not look up the wrong part. I went by the diagram that was shown.

Part number 12 in the diagram.

" W/o cassette 90-94, Retail: $456.77, Your price: $388.25"

Only explanation I can think of for the high price is the rarity of the part since it probably hasn't been in production for quite some time.

I got a single DIN pocket for my 2G for all of $17 at the dealer.
