How much shaft play should a HX40/H1E have? I just got a turbo off of ebay where they said that it has no shaft play. Well when I put pressure on it and start wiggling it there is like no shaft play. However when I keep wiggling it (after 4 seconds or so) it has enough play. If I keep pressure on it and turn the turbine I can feel it grinding on something. I am wondering once I get oil in it if this will go away? Also does anyone think a standard rebuild kit could fix this or not?

You can't really tell shaftplay until you get the turbo full of oil. I wouldn't mess with it to much though. I would say it is fine.

I was planning on just putting it on. However they guy is going to refund me the money for the turbo if I let him know by Monday. The crappy thing about that is my bulseye housing will not be here until like Thrusday LOL.

Oh well I got it for $108 shipped :):):):). If I have to get a rebuild kit for $80 then hell still got a killer deal.

Crossing my fingers and hopping for the best.
