Alrighty boys I finally got my HKS cams (264/272) in and what a great difference. Minor power loss in the low end, GREAT gain in the high. And the rumours of HKS being dropins are completely TRUE! I had the misfortune of not doing a proper valvejob, although we had hand lapped the valves, and had them trimmed (yes not the proper way to do it, but it worked) but they still worked like a charm. They sound WICKED when the car idles, a bit lumpy which is a cool sound in my opinion, but I leave it up to you guys. Just saying things worked great, and my car runs like a top!:thumb: :laser:

I was wondering, if it is ok to run those cams 264/272 on stock valve springs (stock rebuilt head), Just wanted to know if you just keep the revs low or where you run into trouble. Also wanted to know if there is any piston to valve clearance issues. Thanks

I'm interested also...you got a 14b on it still?

No I never had a 14B to begin with. Since my car is an auto I started out with a 13G. I upgraded to an EVOIII when we rebuilt my engine from the ground up. Unfortunately I don't have a sound clip as I have no microphone.

OK garrett, no we didn't run into any clearance issues. If you're valve timing is on you won't have any problems. Just remember to reset your base timing once you replace the cams otherwise you're going to have a world of hesitation when you try to accelerate. Believe me I speak from experience. As for running on stock springs I can't speak from experience for that. I don't foresee any major problems but please don't take my word for it. I had switched to HKS's matching valvesprings before I even got my cams in. As for running the cams on a factory rebuilt head, I don't think you'd have any major issues, but again, as I tell everyone, I'm not a mechanic persay. They work fine in MY car but my head is built for some abuse (ported, new lifters, cams, springs) So please don't take me at my word, running a factory rebuilt head, I wouldn't think anything would go wrong, but just remember that more aggressive cams usually want to see stiffer springs;)

yeah....same here.
I'm waiting so I have enought money to fully build my head, and add the cams :)
I don't feel like taking the thing apart twice.
I would run the cams on the stock head, but without changing the driving habbits, like revv it hard all the time :D , but defenately good springs are a must to prevent valve float.
264 IN /272 EX i always thought they fit me, i would always leave the EX a little more open, but htne again I'm running stock right now and I don't really know the diff. between 272/272's either...still researchign on that.
thx!

Yes 264/272 combo is fine for the stock springs, even the straight up 272's are fine with stock springs to the stock 7500 redline, some even push them higher without any issues.

I just don't want to lose my low end torque. I was looking into the FFWD DKS street cams, anybody tried em?

How does the car sound now that you've put the cams in. I bet its sweet

If you don't want to lose the bottom end then the 264/272 combo is what your looking for :thumb: . Yes there are guys on here running the DKS cams, just do a search & you will find the info your looking for, don't want to get off topic ;)

You do lose a little on the bottom end, but nothing that really holds you back. I have an auto so I feel it more than a standard.

Ditto!

I run 'em to 8200rpm with no issues whatsoever. The head is obviously freshly rebuilt, but springs vlaves and retainers are all stock. I even get away with 3* retard on exhaust cam :D

It's been a while since I had my stock 'low end' to compare it to, but my current low end feels very spirited, can't say I lost much at all.
